Best NCAAF Picks – Can High-Flying TCU Even ATS Record Against Lowly Wyoming?

October 9, 2010

The fifth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs may have an undefeated record after five games, but the national title contending team hasn’t been one of the best NCAAF Picks for scholastic gridiron gamblers to wager on as they get set for their Week 6 matchup against the Wyoming Cowboys.

As a matter of fact, TCU has been a bit below average when it comes to cover their college football odds this season and will be looking to not only win this contest, but do so in convincing fashion while covering the NCAAF betting line for the first time in three weeks.

NCAAF Odds

Wyoming Cowboys +34 -110

TCU Horned Frogs -34 -110

Over 49½ -110

Under 49½ -110

Here is a look at the key head-to-head trends surrounding this matchup.

  • Favorite is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
  • Cowboys are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

Wyoming Cowboys (2-3 SU, 3-2 ATS, 2-3 O/U)

  • Cowboys are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Cowboys are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 road games.
  • Cowboys are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog.
  • Cowboys are 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Wyoming may not have been one of the best NCAAF picks on the Week 5 docket, but the Wyoming Cowboys did manage to snap its three-game losing streak by beating Toledo 20-15 while cashing in as a 4-point road underdog.

Wyoming managed just 266 total yards of offense while allowing 374 yards defensively as David Leonard three one TD pass and Alvester Alexander ran for another.

TCU Horned Frogs (5-0 SU, 2-3 ATS, 3-2 O/U)

  • Horned Frogs are 7-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Horned Frogs are 15-5 ATS in their last 20 games as a home favorite of 10.5 or greater.
  • Horned Frogs are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss.
  • Horned Frogs are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games on grass.
  • Horned Frogs are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 conference games.

TCU mostly cruised in its convincing 27-0 win over Colorado State despite failing to cover the NCAAF Best picks odds as a 33.5-point road favorite. The Horned Frogs got 109 passing yards and one touchdown from quarterback Andy Dalton and two more rushing TDs.

Prediction: The TCU Horned Frogs are clearly heads and shoulders above the Wyoming Cowboys and have beaten the Cowboys two consecutive times – while covering an NCAAF point spread that was over 30 points each time out.

While I generally have some serious reservations about picking teams that are such huge favorites, I genuinely believe that TCU is one of the best NCAAF Picks on the board this week and will manage to narrowly cover the high spread 34.5-point spread against the Cowboys for the third consecutive season.

TCU is ranked 11th in the nation in scoring (41.0 ppg) while ranking an even more impressive sixth in the country in points allowed by limiting their opponents to just 12.4 points per game defensively.

The Cowboys are averaging just 15.0 points per contest (115th) while allowing 28.0 points per game defensively (85th).

The Favorite in this rivalry has gone 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings while Wyoming has failed to cover the spread in five straight games against TCU, going 0-4-1 ATS in their last five meetings overall.

TCU absolutely dominated the Cowboys last season, winning 45-10 to cash in as 30.5-point home favorites and are one of the best NCAAF picks on the board this week.
