Belmont Stakes Post Triple Crown Horse Betting
June 8, 2010
The Belmont Stakes is in the books, and we can eagerly anticipate a likely showdown between Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, Preakness winner Lookin At Lucky, and Belmont winner Drosselmeyer later this summer, most likely at Saratoga in the Travers Stakes (G1).
- With no horseplayers solving the Belmont Stakes Day Pick 6, we have a carryover for Wednesday of $930,495.
- The pool likely will grow to close to $3 million by the time the Pick 4 gets underway with the fourth race at 2:04 ET.
- With a lack of viable longshots in the six race sequence, it seems like a near certainty that the wager will be hit.
- The trickiest race in the sequence is the finale, a $25,000 non winners of two race on the turf going six furlongs.
- The race drew a field of eleven runners, and I am going four deep on my Late Pick 3 ticket, with my top pick Z Cats Meow at 5/1 on the morning line.
Today’s Play of the Day from Belmont Park:
BEL Race 6 Md $35,000 (3:40 ET)
- #10 Hooligan’s Delight 3/1
- #2 Admiral Caperton 10/1
- #6 Ponte Vecchio 5/2
- #3 Tudor King 10/1
Analysis: #10 Hooligan’s Delight cuts back to a sprint after winning a three way photo for the runner up spot last out going a mile over turf labeled as good. He lost momentum in the stretch when he had to steady in tight quarters. He looks as if he has enough tactical speed to handle the cut back to a sprint. He has a pair of sibs that are winners, top earner stakes winner Performing Dancer ($101K, never tried turf).
#2 Admiral Caperton was outrun in both of his starts last fall on the main track and drops in for a tag and tries turf for the first time here. The mare did win twice on turf and has dropped one other foal to race, dirt stakes winner Opus (2 for 3, $74K). The gelding finds a soft spot for his return off the bench for the Morrison barn.
Wagering
- WIN: #10 to win at 5/2 or better.
- EX: 2,10 / 2,3,6,10
- TRI: 2,10 / 2,3,6,10 / 2,3,6,9,10
Today’s Pick 3 Play from Belmont Park:
Starting in Race 7: $1: 4,5 / 1,2 / 1,2,3,7 = $16
BEL Race 7 Md Sp Wt (4:12 ET)
#5 Ready for Ryan, #4 Tapitdar
#5 Ready for Ryan stalked the early pace, had to steady in traffic at the 1/4 pole and weakened to finish fifth in his debut. Lasix and blinkers are added to the mix here for the Jerkens barn that has always been solid with second time starters. The gelding has a decent turf pedigree, by More Than Ready out of a Boston Harbor mare that has dropped one other foal to race, two time turf winner Raspberry Rose ($14K).
#4 Tapitdar made a mild late run to finish fourth last out, exiting the same race as our top pick. Two back the colt has some traffic troubles in a decent third in his turf debut. The stretch back out to a mile should suit.
BEL Race 8 OClm $75,000N3X (4:45 ET)
#2 West Coast Flier, #1 Starforaday
#2 West Coast Flier tracked the early pace, took over the lead heading for home, and could not hold off the winner late in a runner up finish in the mud against $25K starter allowance company. The gelding owns a solid pace profile throughout and the RRod barn seems to be firing with everything recently. The gelding has run pretty well on wet tracks (8-1-3-0).
#1 Starforaday came up short at 6/5 last out at Gulfstream Park and was given a 3 1/2 month break. He owns back speed figs that are a good fit. The Contessa barn is 17% winners with horses coming back off a 61-180 day layoff.
BEL Race 9 Clm $25,000N2L (5:17 ET)
#7 Z Cats Meow, #3 Treat Her Right, #2 Casa Di Vino, #1 Pea Stone
#7 Z Cats Meow weakened late to finish fourth last out at this level, beaten 3 1/2 lengths for the top spot. The filly makes her third start of her current form cycle and does not need to move forward mall that much off her last start to get the job done here.
#3 Treat Her Right was the pacesetter last out before weakening and checking in fifth. There is not much early zip signed up to go here and she may prove tough to catch if she shakes loose early.
Price Plays From Belmont Park:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
R6: #2 Admiral Caperton 10/1
R6: #3 Tudor King 10/1 Good luck padding your bankroll today!
