Belmont Park Racing Card – Bet on Horse Racing

September 22, 2010

After having to deal with a turf course labeled yielding on Saturday and good on Sunday, we should be back to a firm turf course on Wednesday for the Belmont Park card.

The last five races on the card are scheduled for the turf course, including our play of the day and all three legs of our Pick 3 play for this afternoon.

The play of the day is the fifth race, a competitive turf sprint for $25,000 claimers that are non-winners of two races lifetime.

We should be able to get a fair price on Jazzy Moves, who will be making her second start for trainer Robert Barbara, who claimed the four-year-old filly for $25,000 back in August at Saratoga.

The Late Pick 3 starts with a tricky maiden race on turf, followed by a couple of wide open allowance races on the grass.

The key to the three race sequence may be our top pick in the seventh race, the first time starter Djokovic, who is 12/1 on the morning line.

If the four-year-old gelding is ready to fire off preparation at the Fair Hill Training Center, he could get our $24 play off to a great start.

Today’s Play of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 5 Clm $25,000N2L (3:07 ET)

#10 Jazzy Moves 5/1

#3 Pea Stone 7/2

#8 Deputy’s Citizen 3/1

#4 Z Cats Meow 12/1

Analysis: #10 Jazzy Moves made a mild late rally to finish fifth last out going a mile for a $35K tag in her first start off the claim by the Barbara barn. Ramon stuck with this filly for the new barn and is here again. The cut back to a sprint should suit as her maiden score came over the turf here three back going seven furlongs.

#3 Pea Stone set the early fractions opened up a clear lead heading for home and was nailed late, coming up a nose shy of the top spot. The filly has been right in the mix in her last three tries at this level, but is now coming off a hard fought effort where she earned a career top. Does she regress off that effort? A tough call, but after going off at 10/1 and 15/1 in her last tow starts, the price is going to be lighter in this spot.

Horse Wagering

WIN: #10 to win at 7/2 or better.

EX: 3,10 / 3,4,8,10

TRI: 3,10 / 3,4,8,10 / 3,4,8,9,10

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Belmont Park:

Starting in Race 7: $1: 4,5,9 / 1,4,9,10 / 8,11 = $24

BEL Race 7 Md $50,000 (4:11 ET)

#9 Djokovic, #5 Deflationary Fears, #4 R J Hope

#9 Djokovic is a $310K purchase making his debut for the Moran barn that is showing a one for 10 mark (with a +ROI) with first time starters. This gelding should be tight and ready to go off works at Fair Hill. The gelding is by Grand Slam out of a Trempelino mare that has dropped a couple of good turf runners in Bunny Rabbit ($149K) and Silent Roar ($226K). Bravo takes the call, but is looks as if the jock came in to keep the ride on Drift King in the eighth race, his lone other mount on the card. On the other hand, maybe he showed up to ride this guy? After all, Drift King is 20/1 on the ML.

#5 Deflationary Fears drops back in for a tag after failing to fire his best last out at the Spa. Two back for a $60K tag this guy was beaten just a head in a game effort. His two best efforts have come over the turf here and the cut back in distance and the softer spot should suit this guy.

BEL Race 8 OClm $75,000N3X (4:43 ET)

#9 Karakorum Elektra, #1 Just Ben, #10 Tahoe Warrior, #4 Affirmatif

#9 Karakorum Elektra was off last and made a good late run to finish third last out in the Lena Spencer at the Spa going 5 1/2 furlongs. She comes back fairly quick and faces the boys for the Rice barn and note this mare loves the Belmont Park turf (14-6-3-0). She won the Memories of Silver last fall here at today’s distance over ground labeled as good.

Ramon departs to ride the Tagg comebacker while Prado gets the call, the hall of fame rider rarely rides for Rice.

#1 Just Ben makes his first start on turf and her first go off a 11 month layoff here for the Tagg barn that is 11% winners (with a +ROI) with horses coming back off a +180 day layoff. The colt popped a 109 Beyer as a three year old here last summer over a wet main track. He does have three sibs that have won on grass.

BEL Race 9 Alw $41,000N1X (5:15 ET)

#8 Rumors of Glory, #11 Bretton Woods

#8 Rumors of Glory tracked the early pace and bumped hard at the 3/16′s and did not have much left in the stretch in a fifth place finish in the slop in a race taken off the turf. I like the return to the grass here as she broke her maiden three back on the weeds going six furlongs, then caught a yielding turf going long in her first try against winners.

She has a nice pedigree, by Storm Cat out of the stakes winner Indy Glory ($283K).

#11 Bretton Woods made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot last out in a NY Stallion series race. The winner In Te Domine came back to run third in the open and split Riskaverse in her next start, beaten a length for the top spot. Weaver has the filly at the top of her game right now and she fits well in this spot.

These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
