Belmont Park enters its last week of the meeting today, which concludes on Sunday, July 18. Then there is a four-day break, and Saratoga opens on Friday July 23.

Gio Ponti got his first 2010 win on Saturday at Belmont Park, rallying from last to first to catch pacesetter Mission Approved and win by a neck in the $600,000 Man O’ War (G1).

Last year’s Eclipse Award winner for top older male and top turf male was winless since taking the Arlington Million (G1) last summer.

The final graded stakes race of the Belmont Park meeting is Saturday. The $200,000 Jaipur Stakes (G3) is a six-furlong sprint on the turf.

Among those pointing toward the Jaipur include Escrow Kid, recent winner of the Anderson Fowler at Monmouth Park and Formidable, who was fourth in the True North (G2) on Belmont Stakes Day.

Others who likely will be entered include Perfect Officer, Stradivinsky, True to Tradition, Yield Bogey, and Our Friend Harvey.

Entries for the race will come out on Wednesday, and in the meantime, we have a good nine race card at Belmont Park today to start the week:

Today’s Play of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 5 Clm $35,000 (3:08 ET)
#2 Adagio   2/1
#1 Parc des Princes   5/1
#4 Broad River   5/2
#5 Stevil   4/1

Analysis: #2 Adagio came with a five wide rally and got up late to beat $35K claimers last out at Monmouth Park. The six year old has now won 9 of 18 career starts on the weeds and does some of his best running when coming back off a short break. Dutrow finds a good spot for him here tagged right back for $35K.

#1 Parc des Princes earned a career top two back in a head loss for a $40K tag at Del Park, and then last out bounced in a big way trying to get 1 1/2 miles. He is better than he showed last out and the cut back in distance should suit this guy. He won his first two starts after the claim by the Autrey barn including beating Alw-1 foes by nearly 13 lengths in a race taken off the turf. He should bounce back here with a better effort.

Wagering
WIN: #2 to win at 9/5 or better.
EX: 1,2 / 1,2,4,5
TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,4,5 / 1,2,4,5,7

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Belmont Park:

Starting in Race 7: $1: 2,6,10 / 2,3 / 2,5,10,11 = $24

BEL Race 7 Clm $25,000B (4:12 ET)
#6 Too Amenable, #10 Cozy Lion, #2 Worthy Wager

#6 Too Amenable makes his second start off the bench and his first for a tag here after checking in sixth last out against state bred Alw-2 optional claimers off a 6 1/2 month layoff. The gelding has a pair of turf wins, both coming against NY breds. He figures to be fitter second off the layoff and this looks like a good spot here tagged for $25K and facing non-winners of three. He has some talented sibs including John Paul Too ($326K) and Too Scarlet ($269K).

#10 Cozy Lion tracked the early pace and faded to finish sixth last out against optional claimers. The gelding drops into a softer spot here and fits well although he draws a tough post and the price may be on the light side.

BEL Race 8 OClm $100,000C (4:45 ET)
#2 Cagey Girl, #3 Meriwether Jessica

#2 Cagey Girl went gate to wire to beat state bred Alw-2 optional claimers last out in her first start off the claim by the Asmussen barn. The mare finds a spot where again she is the lone speed and should be able to shake loose from this compact field and win right back on the class hike.

#3 Meriwether Jessica won’t be too far behind coming off a seven-furlong sprint, where she also defeated Alw-2 optional claimers. Her effort was her first go off a two-month break and can handle the extra furlong here, but she may find it tough to run down our top pick in the stretch. This race looks fairly formful.

BEL Race 9 Md $16,000 (5:17 ET)
#11 Uncle Pat, #10 Chuckie’s Honor, #3 My Man Jake, #2 Rubinstein

#11 Uncle Pat drops out of a state bred $25K maiden claimer where the gelding checked in seventh at 9/2, his first go off a ten-month layoff. The blinkers are added today along with a class drop here for $16K. He looks as if he has more upside potential than most of this weak looking group as he makes just his third career start for a underrated barn having a solid meeting.

#10 Chuckie’s Honor returns off a seven week break with a barn switch to RRod, who is 58% winners (with a +ROI) with newcomers to the barn. His last two starts were on grass, and at least pedigree wise he seems better suited for dirt. He drops in class and hard to toss anything this barn sends out.

Price Plays From Belmont Park:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.

R1: #1 Of All Times   10/1
R6: #6 Blue Horseshoe   20/1
R6: #4 Adirondack Dew   8/1
R7: #2 Worthy Wager   10/1
R7: #7 The Plot Thickens   8/1

Good luck padding your bankroll today!
