Beasts of the East do Battle – Celtics vs. Magic
January 22, 2009
Arguably the two best teams in the Eastern Conference clash on Thursday night when the Boston Celtics travel to Orlando to take on the Magic. Boston has gotten over that strange losing streak to boast six straight victories in a row. They’ve beaten some pretty good teams during the streak like the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors. Straight-up, the Men in Green are a very good 35 and 9. They also have a winning record against the spread of 24 and 20 but their away record against the BetOnline online betting spread of 10 and 11 will makes them a tough play for some sports betting fans in this game.
The Orlando Magic might be the best team in the NBA. With Dwight Howard in the front court and Jameer Nelson in the back court, the Magic have a fantastic in and out game. It’s shown on the court as Orlando has gone 33 and 8 straight-up so far this season and 28-12-1 against the BetOnline online wagering spread. Their home record against the spread is 12 and 7.
Here are the BetOnline online sportsbook betting odds for this game.
Boston Celtics +4 ½ -110 O 191 ½ -110
Orlando Magic -4 ½ -110 U 191 ½ -110
Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.
The Boston Celtics are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.
The Under is 10 and 2 in the Boston Celtics last 12 games on the road as the underdog.
The Orlando Magic are 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games overall.
The Under is 4 and 1 in the Orlando Magic’s last 5 games at home.
The Magic and Celtics figure to play an incredibly close game. Both teams are defensive minded squads even though the Magic will try and run once in a while.
But against the Celtics, running might not be an option because the Celtics front-court is perfectly capable of keeping Dwight Howard from getting off easy shot after easy shot.
That’s not to say that the Magic can’t cover the 4 ½ point spread in this game. They definitely can because their guards are better than Boston’s. Jameer Nelson could dominate Rondo in this game.
But I’m not sold on the against the spread line. I have to go with my gut which tells me that the Celtics and Magic, because both play very good defense, will end playing in an under game in this.
I’m gong to make a basketball betting wager on this game to go under the BetOnline Total of 191 ½ points.
