Battle Between Chicago’s Rose and Hornets’ Paul Highlight NBA Betting on Saturday

February 11, 2011

The point-guard battle between the Chicago Bull’s Derrick Rose and the New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul should accentuate the top game in the NBA betting sports book on Saturday, February 12th.

Rose and Paul are two of the Top 5 point-guards in the league. How each one plays on Saturday will determine which team wins the game. Also on Saturday night, the Dallas Mavericks travel to Houston to take on the rival Rockets while the Oklahoma City Thunder battles Sacramento on the road.

** Records and stats not counting Thursday and Friday night games.

Chicago Bulls (35-16) at New Orleans Hornets (32-22)

Where: New Orleans Arena, New Orleans, Louisiana

When: 8:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Chicago -3 ½

Analysis: New Orleans hasn’t covered a spread in the NBA online sportsbook for a long time. Why? Spread covers have been hard to come by for the Hornets since Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor, their 2 best defensive players, went to the bench with injuries. I don’t believe either one of those guys plays on Saturday.

CP3, that’s Chris Paul, is the Hornets entire team right now while Derrick Rose can turn to Carlos Boozer or Luol Deng if need be. The Bulls are just an overall better squad at this point in the season. They should cover the spread on Saturday night. Who knows? If Ariza and Okafor play, the Bulls might get points from the Hornets in this contest setting up a nice moneyline wager.

Dallas Mavericks (37-15) at Houston Rockets (25-29)

Where: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas

When: 8:30 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Houston +2 ½

Analysis: Dirk Nowitzki might have another injury. Nowitzki tweaked his wrist versus Sacramento on Feb. 9th. Even if Dirk is 100%, it’s going to be tough to back Dallas in the NBA betting lines considering that Houston often times plays the rival Mavs ultra-tough. The Rockets lost by only 5 points the last time the two teams scrapped, 111 to 105, on February 12th.

Houston should be ready to go and Dallas might be ready to slow down. The Mavericks had won 10 games in a row going into their Thursday night contest versus the Denver Nuggets. Eventually, Dallas is going to slow down. I can’t think of a better team for them to slow down against then versus one of their biggest rivals on Saturday.

Oklahoma City Thunder (33-18) at Sacramento Kings (12-37)

Where: Arco Arena, Sacramento, California

When: 10:00 pm EST

Fair NBA Odds: Oklahoma City -4 ½

Analysis: Sacramento can give the impression that they’re a tough team versus the NBA odds spread at home. They lost by only 3 points to Utah 104 to 107 and by 2 points to Dallas, 100 to 102. They also lost 90 to 95 to Boston. But impressions can be deceiving because the Kings are only 10-17-1 against the spread at home this season.

The problem with facing Oklahoma City is that Sacramento’s defense allows 102.1 points per game. That’s per game to every team. Oklahoma City is one of the best offensive teams in the league with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook both capable of going for 30 each and every night. OKC averages 104.6 points per game. They should rout Sacramento on Saturday night.
