Basketball Betting – Who Should You Wager On In the SEC Tournament

March 10, 2011

With the College Basketball Betting season coming to a close, it’s not too late to get your Championship Week wagers in.

Today we’ll preview the SEC Tournament, where last year’s champion Kentucky once again comes in as the favorite.

Kentucky (+150): To Basketball Betting experts everywhere, seeing Kentucky as the favorites in the SEC Tournament has to be a bit of a surprise. After all, this was a club which was just 2-6 away from Lexington this regular season. Even scarier, they finished the only 11-13-1 against the spread overall.

Still, these are the Wildcats, and any time John Calipari coaches your team, you know you’re in good hands. This squad in particular is led by two dynamic freshmen, Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones. Knight is a silky smooth guard who took over as the emotional leader of this young club, and led the Wildcats in both scoring (17.7) and assists (4.0).

Meanwhile, Jones adds bulk down low, putting in 17 points himself, and over nine rebounds per game as well.

Also, as poorly as Kentucky played at times in 2011, they closed with three impressive wins in the last two weeks: against Florida and Vanderbilt at home, and at Tennessee.

Florida (+170): Speaking of the Gators, after winning the SEC East, and having Chandler Parsons named Player of the Year in the conference, they could come into this tournament a bit upset that they’re not favorites. This will only add fuel to their Basketball Betting fire.

As was mentioned, the Gators boast the Player of the Year in this conference, senior Chandler Parsons, who averaged 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game, making him one of the most versatile performers in college basketball. Guard Erving Walker was the Gators leading scorer at over 14 points per game.

With a first round bye, and a favorable draw from there, the Gators might be the smartest Basketball Betting pick on the board.

Vanderbilt (+450): Although Parsons was named SEC Player of the Year, many believe that it should have gone to Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins. The sophomore led this conference in scoring at over 19 points per game.

And Jenkins is hardly alone on this fun Commodores team. Vanderbilt also features super wing Jeffery Taylor, who averaged 14.5 points per game, and guard Brad Tinsley, that averaged 4.5 assists per game. Down low Festus Ezeli is a rock with six rebounds a game.

At +450 Vanderbilt might be the smartest Basketball Betting wager in the SEC this week.

Alabama (+800): Finally if you’re looking for a team to wager on from the Western Division, then Alabama might be the pick for you. The Tide will get a first round bye in this tournament, after getting a surprising SEC West win with a 12-4 league record.

And to their credit, the Alabama can play, with the dynamic duo of JayMichael Green Tony Mitchell leading the show. While players like Knight, Jenkins and Parsons get all the credit in this conference, Green and Mitchell may be the best pure duo, combining for 31.5 points and 14.7 rebounds per game.

Here are the rest of the teams you can wager on in the SEC Basketball Betting picks:

Georgia (+1000)
South Carolina (+1000)
Arkansas (+1500)
Mississippi (+1500)

Auburn (+6000)
