March 11 – NCAAB Games
Penn State Nittany Lions (17-13) vs. #13 Wisconsin Badgers (23-7)
Where: Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana
When: 8:25 pm EST
TV: TBD
Fair NCAAB Odds: Penn State +8 ½
Analysis: The Penn State Nittany Lions are an odd bunch. They finished off the regular season by going 3 and 1 against the NCAAB moneyline odds. They also covered spreads in 4 out of their last 5 games in the Big Ten regular season. Now, the Lions take on Wisconsin, a team that got their asses handed to them on March 6 via a 65 to 93 loss to Ohio State. I’m not sure if the Badgers are ready to get past that loss, but I am sure that their point-guard, Jordan Taylor, is one of the best in the nation. Taylor averages 18 points, 4 boards and 5 assists per game. If Taylor is on, then Penn State might get racked in this game. If Taylor is off, then the Nittany Lions do have a shot to cover the spread. Tough game to handicap, but the odds makers and bettors might overvalue the Badgers in this contest. That means Penn State is the team to back.
#14 Louisville Cardinals (24-8) vs. #4 Notre Dame Irish (26-5)
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
When: 9:25 pm EST
TV: ESPN
Fair NCAAB Odds: Notre Dame -3 (but Louisville moneyline is bet!)
Analysis: Man, these two teams were something else on Thursday! Only up 36 to 31 at halftime, the Cardinals came out and absolutely demolished a good Marquette team 45 to 25 in the second half to beat the Golden Eagles 81 to 56 and to easily cover the NCAA odds in the sportsbook. The Irish outscored the Cincinnati Bearcats by 10 in the first half of their game on Thursday, 40 to 30, and then they pummeled the Bearcats 49 to 21 in the second half. That’s right; they just manhandled Cincinnati to the tune of an 89 to 51 victory! What’s going to happen on Friday night between these two? I’m actually thinking that Louisville is a good wager on the moneyline only because ND needed overtime to beat the Cardinals the last time the two teams met and Louisville just has that geared up look about them. This is a toss up game. So, why not go for the dough? Louisville to win straight up as a dog.
UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (24-7) vs. #6 San Diego State Aztecs (30-2)
Where: Thomas Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nevada
When: 11:30 pm EST
TV: TBD
Fair NCAAB Odds: UNLV +5 ½
Analysis: The Aztecs only beat the Runnin’ Rebels by 6 points, 63 to 57, the last time these two teams met. San Diego State is a very, very good team, but they don’t always blow teams out and UNLV has been on a ridiculous tear lately. The Rebels are 8 and 2 straight up in their last 10 games. Not only that, but they’ve gone 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games. I’m not sure if UNLV is good enough to beat San Diego State straight up, but I’m sure that the Rebels will be competitive on Friday night. I just can’t bet against UNLV who were ranked in the Top 25 to start the season, and have lost to San Diego State by only 6 points in both games against their MWC rivals. I’ll back UNLV if the odds are fair.
