Baseball Wagering Pick – Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers

April 27, 2011

Coming off last night’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at home, the Texas Rangers look to take Game 2 of the four-game series tonight. With the first pitch slated for 8:05 PM ET, the baseball wagering odds favor Texas to get the win, with the game total set at nine runs.

After putting together a string of home wins to start the season, Texas has now lost three at home and send Matt Harrison to the mound tonight in hopes of avoiding its fourth.

Baseball Wagering Odds: Toronto +1.5, Texas -1.5, Game Total: 9 runs

Harrison starts tonight coming off a loss, as he attempts to still the Blue Jay bats. Toronto put together three homers in just one inning in last night’s win over Texas, 6-4, as Jose Bautista is tied for the most homers in the League with eight on the season.

Harrison began the season strong before faltering in a loss to the Angels, in which he gave up three runs in less than seven innings. The game bumped his ERA up to 1.88, as he is now 3-1 on the season.

Tonight he will match up against Jesse Litsch, who was brought up from Triple A this week. In his last start for Toronto, the right-hander gave up six runs in just six innings.

MLB Pitching Matchup:

TOR J. Litsch (1-1 ERA 3.63) vs. TEX M. Harrison (3-1, 1.88)

Despite that Harrison is not at the top of the Texas rotation, the Rangers have an obvious pitching advantage tonight. Litsch has allowed 18 hits in only 17 innings played this season, but has garnered 16 strike-outs. Against the Rangers, he has posted a career ERA of 5.06.

Still without leader Josh Hamilton, the Rangers have put their offense back together, led by Nelson Cruz and Yorvit Torrealba. But the Blue Jays showed their batting power last night, and the Rangers will need solid pitching to contain the Toronto offense tonight.

Still, Texas is probably the best MLB bet tonight based on the starting pitching inequality. Go with Texas to take the win at home.
