Baseball Odds – Old Men Zito and Kuroda Battle when Giants Face Dodgers on April 3

April 4, 2011

The San Francisco Giants send Barry Zito to the mound against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that should offer fair MLB betting lines in the sportsbook on Sunday.

In addition to previewing the Giants versus Dodgers game, I also preview the Padres versus Cardinals and Astros versus Phillies Sunday games. Keep reading for three awesome previews.

April 3 – MLB National League

** Records and stats not counting Friday games.

Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Where: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When: 1:35 pm EST

Starting Pitchers: HOU J.Happ-L, PHI R.Oswalt-R

MLB Odds Pick: Houston moneyline

Analysis: This is the first year that Roy Oswalt actually looks old to me. The online sports betting odds in this game will no doubt favor Oswalt and the Phillies by a huge margin, but I’m not sure if Roy doesn’t start degrading a bit. Sounds horrible, doesn’t it? Like Oswalt is a leper or something. I don’t intend to be mean about it. I’m just saying that Roy’s numbers have been going down for a few years in a row now but this season, this season, he’s actually looking like an old pitcher. Joe Happ isn’t really a great pitcher, but he used to throw the ball for the Phillies meaning that he probably knows a bit about those awesome Philly bats. Happ’s knowledge, and the fact that I’m just not a big fan of Roy Oswalt this season, means that I have to take a shot on the good old Houston Astros in this contest.

San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri

When: 2:15 pm EST

Starting Pitchers: SD J.Moseley-R, STL J.Garcia-L

MLB Odds Pick: St. Louis moneyline

Analysis: Moseley’s probably the reason that so many online MLB odds betting handicappers are chilly on the San Diego Padres this season. Moseley brings a 5.28 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP to Busch Stadium on Sunday. Those are awful stats. The man has given up 275 hits and 32 home runs in only 233 inning pitched. I don’t see JM having a good shot to take down the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Garcia’s 2.96 lifetime ERA is awfully salty considering who’s starting for the other team, isn’t it? St. Louis should have no trouble winning this game straight up as favorites in the sports book on Sunday, April 3. I see them possibly beating San Diego by 2 runs or more meaning that the Cardinals could be a solid wager on the run line.

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Where: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California

When: 4:10 pm EST

Starting Pitchers: SF B.Zito-L, LA H.Kuroda-R

MLB Odds Pick: Dodgers run line

Analysis: I’m thinking about borrowing my friend’s grandfather’s walker and taking it down to the ballpark to have both Barry Zito and Hiroki Kuroda sign it on Sunday afternoon. Kuroda is 36-years-old and Zito is 34-years-old. Okay, the two aren’t that old, but, seriously, isn’t it time that both of them hung it up? Actually, Kuroda might have something left in the tank. I’m sure that Zito doesn’t. So, I’m going to go ahead and bank on the Dodgers to beat the San Francisco Giants by at least 2 runs on Sunday. The G-Men will challenge for the National League Championship again this season, but they figure to lose a few games early on before Brian Wilson comes back as their closer. Sunday should be one of those games. I’m backing the Dodgers on the MLB odds run line in this contest.
