Baseball Odds – MLB Battle in California

April 26, 2011

The Los Angeles Angels have run upon a bit of a losing streak and will send ace Jered Weaver to the mound tonight to turn things around. The Angels open up a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics tonight in Anaheim, with the baseball odds favoring the Angels.

Oakland Athletics (11-11) vs. Los Angeles Angels (12-10)

Angel Stadium, Anaheim, California

Monday, April 25 at 10:05 PM ET

TV: CSCA, FSW

Baseball Odds: Oakland +1.5, Los Angeles -1.5, Game Total: 6.5 runs

The Angels were swept at home by the Red Sox over the weekend and look to avoid losing five in a row behind the arm of Jered Weaver. With five wins on the season, Weaver looks for his sixth tonight. As an early forerunner for the Cy Young, Weaver has posted the most wins in baseball while leading the American League in ERA.

However, against Oakland, Weaver was 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA last season.

MLB Pitching Matchup:

OAK G. Gonzalez (2-1, 1.80) vs. LAA J. Weaver (5-0, 1.34)

Oakland will look to Gio Gonzalez, who started off the season solid, allowing only one run in 19 innings of play before giving up four runs to the Red Sox in the A’s loss last Wednesday. With an ERA of 1.80, Gio has the second best stats for Oakland behind Brett Anderson.

Against Los Angeles, the southpaw went 3-1 with an ERA of 3.29 last season.

But the Los Angeles bats have been cold as of late, and Oakland hopes Gonzalez can continue that trend. Against the Red Sox, the Angels batted .158 throughout the series.

On the other hand, the A’s have won their last two games, accumulating 22 hits in those games. Led by CoCo Crisp, who has put together two three-hit games, Oakland has been putting runs on the board.

The Angels are favored to win tonight’s matchup and bounce back from their four consecutive losses to Boston. Also, Los Angeles has won the last six meetings with Oakland at Anaheim, and will use the home-field advantage to get the win and cover the spread tonight.
