Baseball Odds: Boston -1.5, Baltimore +1.5, Game Total: 8 runs
After a disappointing loss behind the arm of Clay Buchholz last night, the Red Sox will send Josh Beckett, a steady right-hander, to the mound tonight. After losing his season opener, Beckett has won two games with an average ERA of 1.17 in his last three starts.
In his career against Baltimore, Beckett is 5-2, with an ERA of 2.94.
The Orioles, on the other hand, got a great outing last night from starter Zack Britton, and hope for similar success with Jeremy Guthrie tonight. Despite a 1-3 season record, Guthrie has allowed two runs or less in three of his four starts this season. However, Guthrie has not found success yet at home, going 0-2 at Camden Yards.
In addition, the right-hander has struggled mightily against Boston. With no wins and seven losses in nine starts against the Red Sox, Guthrie has put up an ERA average of 6.32 and allowed 13 homers.
MLB Pitching Matchup:
BOS J. Beckett (2-1, ERA 1.93) vs. BAL J. Guthrie (1-3, ERA 3.12)
In comparison of the starters, Beckett is the more solid pick, as he is off to a more promising start in 2011.
In last night’s game, the Boston bats were shut down, as Kevin Youkilis went 0-3 and Carl Crawford was held hitless. However, these two batters have combined for a .333 average against Guthrie, as Boston hopes to put more runs on the board tonight.
Boston gets the nod in the MLB Sportsbook tonight, and the best betting odds favor the Red Sox. With a more reliable name on the mound, and bats that have had prior success against the Baltimore starter, Boston should pull out the win tonight.
