Baseball Futures – New York, Tampa Bay and Minnesota In the Lead

May 19, 2010

Although you can bet on MLB every day in the sportsbook, that doesn’t mean that you can’t bet baseball futures wagers as well.

Now a month into the season, let’s re-evaluate who are, and should be the World Series favorites, so that you can make futures bets today.

Let’s start in the American League and we’ll do a separate National League futures article:

New York Yankees (+250): The defending World Series champions are still the favorite of MLB futures bettors, and looking at their early season resume, it’s no surprise why. They are already nine games over .500, and have a sparkling 11-4 record at home.

Maybe the most impressive thing about the Yankees early season run is that they really aren’t anywhere close to 100 percent. Starting catcher Jorge Posada, outfielder Curtis Granderson, pitcher Andy Pettitte and reliever Mariano Rivera have already missed time with minor injuries, with Granderson still on the disabled list. Even more surprising is that their two best hitters, Alex Rodriguez (just five home runs) and Mark Teixeira (hitting just .219) aren’t playing particularly well either.

What has carried the Yankees so far is their pitching. New York’s top four starters- Pettitte, Phil Hughes, C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett have combined to start the year 18-3.

With that pitching staff and an ever improving lineup, it’s no wonder that the Yankees are the favorites in the MLB Futures bets. Make your wager now in the BetOnline sportsbook!

Tampa Bay Rays (+550): Quick, name the team with the best record in baseball. That’s right; it’s the Tampa Bay Rays!

The Rays are off to an unbelievable start at 28-11, but are an absolutely staggering 15-4 on the road. Much like the Yankees, they get it done with incredible starting pitching, as all five starters have at least three wins, with each carrying an ERA under 4.00. Offensively Evan Longoria is making his case for an early season MVP run, with a .318 batting average with nine home runs and 35 runs batted in.

Tampa Bay is off to a hot start, and they aren’t going anywhere. They might be the best MLB futures bet on the board.

Minnesota Twins (+1500): When you play in a small market like Minnesota, it isn’t always easy to get noticed. Starting off 24-15 is a good way to get everyone’s attention though.

That’s the record of the Minnesota Twins, who as things stand currently have a two game lead over Detroit. The Twins do it offensively with two studs, Joe Mauer (.360) and Justin Morneau (.366, 11 home runs) in their order, and two studs in their rotation, Francisco Liriano and Carl Pavano on the mound. They’ve combined for eight wins on the season.

While the Yankees and Rays are the favorites right now, the Twins may be the best value.

Consider them, when making your baseball futures bets today!
