Baseball Betting Trends – Always Bet on These Home Teams

May 17, 2010

Any time you can turn your home field into a little house of horrors for the opposition, you’re going to be a hero for baseball bettors. Check out why the Yanks, Tigers, and A’s have been raking it in for MLB betting fans at home.

Season Standings

  1. Detroit Tigers (14-5, +$935) – In particular, starting pitching has really struggled at Comerica Park this year against the Tigers, as was noted once again when RHP John Lackey gave up five runs in his first four innings of work in the Motor City on Sunday. The Tigers are going to need to keep playing great ball at home this year to keep up with the red hot Twins in the AL Central.
  2. New York Yankees (12-2, +$857) – The wise may recognize that the Yankees are going to be impossible to bet at home laying so much chalk for their remaining 67 games in the Bronx this year. However, when you win 12 of your 14, even laying -400 would still be profitable! New York’s ROI at home is unbelievable now, but one bad series can destroy that in a hurry. Buyer beware.
  3. Oakland Athletics (13-7, +$609) – Oakland might be a miserable 5-13 on the road, but it is sticking around in the AL West chase because of a 13-7 home record. Pitching has been fantastic there all season long, allowing just 3.15 runs per game, including three shutouts. Ten of the 20 foes have come into the park formerly known as Oakland Alameda County Coliseum and scored two runs or less.

Who’s Hot?

  1. Oakland Athletics (4-1, +$412) - And why not, after running off those stats? The A’s capped off this most recent home stand in grand fashion, as LHP Dallas Braden tossed a perfect game against the Rays. The only time that a team scored more than four against Oakland in that six game home stand was when Texas dropped six in a 7-6 loss to the hosts.
  2. Cincinnati Reds (4-1, +$351) – Those are your first place Cincinnati Reds, thank you! The Reds just took two out of three against St. Louis in a very emotional series to take over first place in the NL Central right at the quarter pole of the year. Manager Dusty Baker is getting just the right combination of pitching and hitting to win games. Cincy hasn’t conceded more than four runs in a game at home since May 7th, and has scored at least four in all but one game at the Great American Ballpark since May 5th.
  3. Toronto Blue Jays (4-1, +$303) - At 23-16, it’s a crying shame that the Jays know that they have absolutely no chance of finishing any better than fourth in the AL East when it’s all said and done, but they’re trying to defy that logic by playing well at home. In a three game set against the Rangers, Toronto outscored the guests 27-12 to earn the sweep. That makes the Blue Jays 6-1 in their L/7 MLB betting series at Rogers Centre.
