Baseball Betting – A Pitcher’s Duel Expected When MLB Betting Fave Milwaukee Hosts the New York Mets

May 29, 2010

The New York Mets have vaulted themselves right into the thick of the N.L. East race. MLB sportsbook betting underdogs to win the N.L. East, the Mets are now only 2 games behind N.L. East leading Philadelphia after sweeping the Phillies in a 3 game series. The Mets didn’t allow Philadelphia to score a single run in that series.

New York is hoping for the same type of magic they received from their starting rotation in those 3 games on Friday night when they take on the Milwaukee Brewers. They send their ace, Johan Santana to the mound. Santana has been very good this season with a 4 and 2 record, a 3.41 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

With Santana hurling the ball, the Mets should be the favorite in this game, but backing them might not be the wisest baseball betting wager to make. The Brewers send their own top of the rotation pitcher to the mound on Friday night.

Baseball Betting Line

New York Mets
Johan Santana – L -105 O 7 -115

Milwaukee Brewers
Yovani Gallardo – R -115 U 7 -105

Neither team gets the edge based on the MLB betting trends.

The New York Mets are 0 and 4 in their last 4 games on the road versus a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400.

The New York Mets are 1 and 5 in their last 6 games versus a team with a losing record.

The Milwaukee Brewers are 1 and 4 in their last 5 games at home with the total set at 7 to 8 ½.

The Milwaukee Brewers are 2 and 9 in their last 11 games at home.

One team, the Mets, can’t win on the road. The other team, the Brewers, can’t win at home. So the road team is a bad road team and the home team is a bad home team.

What happens when both the road and home team send their best pitchers to the mound? Nothing. Well, not much. That’s why the best baseball bet I see in this game is under the total of 7 runs.

Both pitchers should be incredibly effective on Friday night. Santana is 1 and 0 with a 1.25 ERA in his last three starts against Milwaukee. Overall, he’s 4 and 3 with a 3.41 ERA in 9 games against the Brew Crew. Yovani Gallardo, Milwaukee’s ace, is 4 and 2 with a 3.20 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP on the season. Against the Mets he’s been exemplary numbers wise. Even though he’s 0 and 1 in 2 starts against the Mets, he’s posted a .69 ERA and he’s struck out 19 batters in 13 innings of work.

With both pitchers doing so well on the mound, this game should be a dogfight from beginning to end. I don’t see any team breaking out and scoring more than 3 runs in this game and expect possibly 1 or 2 to come from one of the teams. Why bother trying to figure out which one?

My money will be on under the total of 7 runs in this game. That’s the bet to make in the MLB sportsbook when the Mets take on the Brewers tonight.

MLB Betting Pick: Under 7 runs
