The Padres enter this game with the top record in the National League, but off a disappointing Monday night loss. In the contest, the Diamondbacks scored four first inning runs, and two in the third, to cruise to a comfortable 7-2 win. And it’s those big bats which strike fear into San Diego fans.
In Tuesday night’s baseball betting matchup, the Diamondbacks will undoubtedly have the advantage offensively. They’re a team that has big-time power, currently ranking fourth in baseball in home runs. Third baseman Mark Reynolds leads the charge with 31 (including two Monday night), but certainly isn’t alone in this lineup.
Adam LaRoche has 23, Chris Young has 22 and four others are in double figures. Add all those up, and it’s easy to see why a trip to Chase Field has become a pitcher’s nightmare.
The man who walks into that fire on Tuesday will be righty Kevin Correia. In a year where San Diego has one of the top pitching staffs in baseball, Correia has been the exception to their excellence. On the season, he’s got a 10-9 record, but his 5.29 ERA scares many in this baseball betting matchup.
He most recently pitched against Arizona last week, getting lit up for nine runs in just 3.1 innings at Petco Park.
Correia will be opposed by a pitcher who has been much better of late, Arizona righty Ian Kennedy. Kennedy struggled for big stretches of 2010, but seems to finally have his usual erratic ways under control.
He’s now had three solid starts in a row, and is coming off maybe his best performance of the year in San Diego last week. In that game, he allowed just one hit in seven innings, striking out a season-high 12 Padres in the win.
And it’s because of Kennedy’s recent run of success, that Arizona should be your pick in this baseball betting matchup.
Last week the Padres simply had no answer for Ian Kennedy, who was simply phenomenal. He dominated from start to finish, and has now had four straight starts that ended in Diamondbacks wins.
San Diego may have the best record in the National League, but Arizona and their stud pitcher will get the best of the Padres Tuesday night.
Wager on the Diamondbacks in this baseball betting matchup!
