Baseball Betting – D’Backs Take MLB Betting Series against Cards
April 21, 2010
The third and final game of the MLB betting series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks is scheduled to go from beautiful Chase Filed on Wednesday night.
The series is tied at two games apiece after the Diamondbacks scored a thrilling 9-7 slugfest of a victory last night over the NL Central Division leading Redbirds.
Neither starting pitching put forth solid efforts as both Kyle Lohse and Dan Haren were ripped apart by the opposing offenses. However, Haren was able to gut it out through six innings of work to secure his second win of the season.

Looking to build off his dominating effort against the New York Mets his last time out will be Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter who enters his fourth start of the season 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA & 1.17 WHIP. He’s allowed 16 hits (5 HR) and seven ER’s with a K/BB ratio of 17/5 through 18 total innings of work.
He was masterful in his 2010 Busch Stadium debut limiting the Mets to just four hits and one unearned run while K’ing 10 and issuing three free passes.
He’s never suffered a defeat against Arizona in his career, as he enters his eighth overall start against the Diamondbacks 4-0 with a 1.83 ERA & 1.07 WHIP.
If Edwin Jackson didn’t have to face the San Diego Padres in two of his three starts to date, he’d enter this outing undefeated. Overall, the power righty is 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA & 1.39 WHIP and has allowed 18 hits and seven ER’s through 18 total innings of work.
He was in line for his second win of the season against SD before the D’Backs bullpen imploded in the 9th. He allowed just three hits through six shutout innings of work.
He squared off against the Cardinals in each of the two previous seasons when pitching for both the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays. In 11.1 total IP, he allowed four ER’s and 13 hits while K’ing 14 and walking six.
MLB Insider Tip: A win tonight would earn the Cards two things: It would mark the first time in 11 years that St. Louis won its first three road series to start a season, and it would also mean they took four straight series’ from Arizona.
That said; I’m a fan of Edwin Jackson and what he brings to the table. I’m also a fan of riding momentum. Last night’s impressive victory snapped the Snakes five-game losing streak, and I look for them to take the field very confidently even though Carpenter has experienced great success in tonight’s venue.
Though he dominated the Mets his last time out, I’m not convinced he’s back to his dominant form. He’s already given up five HR’s this season, and the way the Snakes were raking last night, I have faith in the offense to once again be successful in this spot.
St. Louis is just 1-5 its L/6 against NL West opposition and a putrid 2-10 in Game 3 of a series the L/12 times. Arizona is yet to lose a home MLB betting series this season, and I look for that streak to remain intact after tonight.
My MLB Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks (Jackson)
