April 19, 2011

Can the Boston Red Sox finally get a win on the road?  Sitting at 0-6 away from Fenway, the Red Sox go for their first road win on the season tonight in Oakland against the Athletics.

The baseball betting odds favor the Athletics in tonight’s matchup in the first of a two-game series.

Baseball Betting Odds: Boston +1.5, Oakland -1.5, Game Total: 7.5 runs

Having won their last two at home, the A’s host the Red Sox tonight in what looks to be a prime-time pitching matchup.

MLB Pitching Matchup:
BOS J. Lackey (1-1, ERA 15.58) vs. OAK B. Anderson (0-1, ERA 2.29)

Despite a dismal start to the 2011 season, Lackey hopes for a turn-around tonight against a team that he has had great success against.  In his career, Lackey has looked the best facing the Athletics, with 17 wins and five losses together with an average ERA of 2.90.

After being skipped on the starting rotation after the Tampa Bay game cancellation, Lackey comes into tonight’s game off lots of rest. Opponents have hit .395 against him so far this season, but Lackey is hoping his luck against Oakland holds true.

On the other side of the stripe, the A’s look to Brett Anderson. With three starts on the season, he has taken one loss and two no-decisions, posting an ERA of 2.29.  In his last outing against the Chicago White Sox, he allowed three runs in just over five innings of play.  However against the Red Sox, he has had better success, with three wins and one loss with an ERA of 2.61.

The bats of both teams have picked up the pace lately, as Jed Lowrie of Boston went four for five with four RBIs in the Sox’s last win over Toronto. Boston has won its last three in a row, as the team looks to make up for its awfully slow start.

The A’s have won their last two, defeating the Detroit Tigers by scoring 11 runs in their last two games combined.

Between these two teams, Oakland has won four of the last five meetings. The MLB Sportsbook lists Oakland as the favorite tonight, with the game total set at 7.5 runs.

Despite Boston’s last three wins, the team has yet to notch a win on the road.  The best bet for baseball betting fans is on the A’s to get the victory at home tonight.
