Baltimore Orioles Cashing “Under” MLB Odds

September 1, 2010

Bad teams are the theme for this week’s MLB odds list for ‘under’ squads once again. There is only one of the five teams mentioned that even has a prayer of going to the second season at this point. Find out who those five are right here with BetOnline Sportsbook!

Season Standings

1: Baltimore Orioles (73-52-6) - Apparently, Buck Showalter has taught the O’s how to pitch! All of a sudden, the team’s ERA is down to 4.81 on the season, which is more than a quarter of a run lower than it was when Dave Trembley’s successor took over. Baltimore allowed just 98 runs over the first 30 days of August, the fewest in the AL East and the third fewest in baseball. No wonder why this team is 16-11, two games better than the New York Yankees this month!

2: Oakland Athletics (70-52-8) – The only squad that has allowed fewer runs in the American League than Baltimore is Oakland. The A’s have given up just 83 runs all month long, an average of just 3.07 runs per game. Though the team really still isn’t hitting the ball that well, Oakland’s staff is up to fourth in baseball in ERA at 3.55.

3: Houston Astros (71-54-6) – Houston is up to the third best money team in baseball all of a sudden, and it is doing so by winning the close, low scoring games. The ‘Stros are actually 29-23 since the start of July, which gives them the second best record in the NL Central in that stretch. Thanks to the addition of JA Happ though, Houston fans don’t even remember about that Roy Oswalt guy that was traded for him at the deadline.

Who’s Hot?

1: Houston Astros (8-0) – A streak of nine straight ‘unders’ is still alive for Houston backers right now after the team has just gone on a tear with good starts. We’ve already mentioned Happ, who just threw a complete game shutout last night, but don’t lose sight of Brett Myers either, who has only allowed five earned runs in his L/3 starts.

2: Philadelphia Phillies (8-0) – Here’s another team on a nine game tear of low scorers. The Phils are a team tough to figure out right now. The lineup is getting healthy, which theoretically should be leading to better offensive spells. Yet they were getting no-hit through seven innings yesterday and haven’t scored more than three runs in a game but once since August 23rd.

3: Boston Red Sox (5-0-1) – It finally looks like all of the woes in the lineup are starting to catch up with the BoSox. Losing two out of three in Tampa Bay over the weekend effectively ended their playoff hopes, but at least Theo Epstein can rest assured knowing that his team was still in it in spite of the fact that his #1, #2, and #4 hitters from his projected everyday lineup have spent a ton of time on the DL.
