Baltimore at Kansas City – NFL Odds for Wild Card Weekend
January 9, 2011
The Ravens at Chiefs matchup has flown under the radar a bit this weekend but the NFL odds pairing has the makings of being the best game of the wildcard weekend.
Neither team backed into the playoffs like some of the other teams on the weekend slate and both have all-around quality teams on both sides of the ball.
What makes it even more intriguing is that Kansas City is the new team on the playoff block and yet they have home field against a stalwart in the Baltimore Ravens and they are also one of the better home teams in the NFL.
The NFL odds matchup between these two takes center stage as the first game on Sunday. Who should be the pick of betting fans?
Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs
1 pm Sunday
Pro Football Betting Line: Ravens favored at -3.
The Ravens and Chiefs finished with a 2-game difference between them in the NFL standings with Baltimore holding a 12-4 record and the Chiefs at 10-6; of course the Chiefs won the AFC West so they got the home field advantage.
The NFL odds favorite Ravens are a more experienced team and one that is likely to take the lack of home field personally.
They have a lot to prove heading into this one and many expect them to play their best game.
Joe Flacco, who is still a young QB by many measurements, is the wild card in this one for the Ravens.
He has not fared well in the clutch in big games but he’s learning and improving and Anquan Boldin gives him that tough, dependable third-down target he’s lacked in previous playoff games.
Boldin helped Kurt Warner and the Cardinals make the Super Bowl with those skills and he could be the missing piece for the Ravens this year.
Kansas City is the NFL odds underdog but they have just as much raw talent if not more, and Matt Cassell had a fantastic year but isn’t playoff tested.
The Chiefs were 5-3 ATS at home this season and their last loss to Oakland was disconcerting but didn’t mean a whole lot in terms of seeding as they already had the division title locked up.
But Baltimore is 4-1-1 ATS in the past 6 games on the road and they’ve been in these playoff situations before.
Go with the Ravens in this one because of that experience and playoff know-how.
NFL odds pick: Baltimore (-3).
