Atlanta’s Not in Cleveland’s League
May 9, 2009
Ok, technically they’re both in the NBA. But when the Hawks lose two straight games by an average of -18.5 points, I’m thinking that this series is already over. Cleveland looks absolutely ridiculous. Not only has LeBron posted huge numbers, he’s been a monster on the defensive end. At this point, can we even consider the Hawks to be a viable championship threat?
Josh Smith has been reduced to nothing in this series. I mean, I know that he’s erratic, that he rarely shows up on the road and that his consistency has failed him all season. But eight points in game two? Seriously? Smith went 2-for-13 from the field, and 4-of-4 from the line, with just one rebound and three assists as he piled up four fouls while trying to deal with LeBron. Smith’s inability to jump to superstardom is hampering the Hawks ability to compete with the Cavs.
Cleveland Cavaliers VS. Atlanta Hawks
Saturday, May 9th — Philips Arena, Atlanta — 8:00pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Cleveland -8 (180)
Everyone’s using the “Atlanta’s great at home!!!” thing with me and I’m just not buying it. Sure the trends will push you away from Cleveland, but have you been watching these games? Horford’s a shell of himself. Joe Johnson’s ankle is beginning to bother him too. Josh Smith isn’t even showing up to games. Why would you even bother with this game for Atlanta?
They’ve lost by nearly twenty points in both games, and they’ve always gotten hammered by the Cavs. And it’s not just ego the Cavs are stroking here. They’re trying to close this series early, because it’ll mean they can rest their legs while Orlando and Boston beat the crap out of each other. Cleveland’s in a league of their own right now, and Atlanta is a farm team at best with LeBron proving that Josh Smith isn’t ready for the big time.
NBA Furious Free Pick: Cleveland -8 (UNDER)
