Athletics vs. Detroit – Oakland Rolls in for a three game set
May 15, 2009
The Athletics and Tigers begin a three game series on Friday night with Detroit looking to break a three game losing streak. The Tigers are tied with both Minnesota and Kansas City for the lead in the ultra-tough A.L. Central Division. They send pitcher Edwin Jackson to the mound. Jackson only has a record of 2 and 2 but his ERA of 2.60 and WHIP of 1.07 are exceptional.
Oakland will counter Jackson with pitcher Brett Anderson. Anderson is one of the reasons that the Athletics are at the bottom of the A.L. West standings. Anderson is 0 and 3 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.
Here is the BetOnline online sportsbook betting line for this game.
Oakland Athletics
Brett Anderson – L +1 ½ -165 +130 O 9 ½ +105
Detroit Tigers
Edwin Jackson – R -1 ½ +145 -150 U 9 ½ -125
Here are a few online wagering trends in this game.
The Oakland Athletics are 0 and 5 in Brett Anderson’s last 5 starts.
The Oakland Athletics are 6 and 20 in their last 26 games versus a pitcher with a WHIP of less than 1.15.
The Detroit Tigers are 4 and 1 in their last 5 games on grass.
The Detroit Tigers are 7 and 3 in their last 10 games versus a left handed starter.
Detroit was swept by the Minnesota Twins but before that they had won three games in a row. The Tigers are a fairly good team while there’s no doubt that the Athletics aren’t good at all.
Detroit should bounce back but putting up an extra 50 bucks to bet them straight-up really isn’t the way to go in my mind.
The differences between the two pitchers couldn’t be more startling. Edwin Jackson has a fantastic ERA and a fantastic WHIP while Brett Anderson is struggling. The Tigers hit well against lefties. Anderson’s a lefty that hasn’t been doing well to begin with.
So, Detroit should light him up. I’ll take a swing on the run line in this game.
I’m going to bet Edwin Jackson and the Detroit Tigers at -1 ½ +145 on the run line.
