Arizona vs Minnesota – NFL Odds
November 7, 2010
The Vikings are a mess, as Brett Favre is one more big hit away from retirement, Randy Moss was cut, Brad Childress is trying to be fired, and yet the NFL odds makers have them favored by more than a touchdown this weekend. That has to say a lot about the NFL odds makers’ opinion of the Arizona Cardinals. This game will be much like watching a car crash, you know it’s bad but you can’t turn away.
The NFL odds makers have set the Vikings as -8-point favorites. A straight up bet on the underdog Cardinals will pay bettors +305 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 40½ points.

What a difference a year makes, as the Vikings were an overtime field goal away from making the Super Bowl. Despite the finish, Brett Favre had one of the best statistical seasons of his career and this year’s slogan was Super Bowl or Bust.
Well bust happened.
Brett Favre came to camp…well he missed camp and showed up for the preseason on an ankle that was held together with screws and duct tape. He’s looked old and like every bit, the 41 years on his birth certificate would indicate. He’s completing 59.7% of his passes for 1450 yards. Favre has only tossed seven touchdowns in 7 games but 11 interceptions. His 69.8 quarterback rating is the lowest of his career and even if he wants to play another year, no team will roll the dice with the Ol’ Gunslinger in 2011.
The Vikings wasted a 3 rd round draft pick on acquiring Randy Moss, who they cut after just four games. Depending on who you believe, it may have been his poor dinner manners or it was that Brad Childress is a horrible coach and he couldn’t handle the fact Moss essentially said as much in his Week 8 post game interview. What makes this story interesting is that apparently the Vikings owner wasn’t informed until after it happened. I think Childress has given up on this team and his team has given up on him. I would assume he’s begging to be fired but it looks like the Vikings and Childress are stuck together for the end of the year.
Amid the chaos, Adrian Peterson quietly leads the NFL with 776 yards and for a guy who’s had a case of fumblitis in the past, hasn’t lost a fumble all year.
The Cardinals have quarterback problems, Kurt Warner retired and Matt Lienart was released. Derek Anderson has looked like the Derek Anderson we knew he would be and rookie Max Hall is far from being ready for the bright lights of the NFL.
The Cards rank in the bottom third of every offensive and defensive category.
To pick a winner in this battle of horrible teams would be too much to bear. I’m betting on the under because I don’t think the Vikings will score 40 points and I’m doubtful the Cardinals will score any.
NFL Betting Pick: Vikings/Cardinals Under 40½
