Aqueduct Race 7 – We have your Winning Ticket

April 4, 2009

The Wood Memorial is Aqueduct’s featured race on Saturday but a number of other stakes races will be run on the card.

One of those, the Grade III Bay Shore Stakes for 3-year olds, figures to provide an overlaid horse or two for BetOnline online racebook fans.

Let’s analyze Race 7 at Aqueduct on Saturday.

Aqueduct – Race 7

Grade III Bay Shore Stakes

$200,000

For Three Year Olds

7 furlongs on dirt

Taqarub – 4/1 morning line odds

The Kiaran McLaughlin trained Taqarub goes back to a distance where he should be successful. After getting pummeled by Quality Road in the Grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes, Taqarub gets to try his feet at 7 furlongs. The Aldebarran colt started out his career by winning his first three races. He also breaks from the 10 hole where jockey Richard Migliore can see what the other speed is doing. He looks very solid in this spot.

Not For Silver – 5/1 morning line

Out of 4 lifetime races, Not For Silver has 3 victories and a 2nd place finish. The Michael Trombetta trainee gets a jockey switch to 27% winner Ramon Dominguez. Dominguez should get Not For Silver to run an exceptional race in this. He has a shot at solid odds to return to the winner’s circle as Not For Silver will no doubt be in perfect position turning for home.

Capt. Candyman Can – 5/2 morning line

The morning line favorite is turning back in distance after failing in the Grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes. 7 furlongs should be better for him, but he might be compromised if he goes out with the frontrunners. If he hangs back, he might be going against his style. He has a shot, but at the odds I’ll pass on betting to win.

Wagering Strategy

Taqarub looks like a solid wager to win and place. Because all three horses have a chance to win, I will box all three of them in an exacta and trifecta.
