American League Pennant Futures Update
May 5, 2011
Had a chance to re-think those American League Pennant futures? After a hot start to the season by the Cleveland Indians, let’s take a look at the MLB odds in the Sportsbook for which team is the best wager to win the American League.
To Win American League:
New York Yankees +190
Boston Red Sox +250
Texas Rangers +700
Los Angeles Angels +800
Cleveland Indians +1200
The Indians currently hold the best record in baseball, with a .714 win percentage. Who needs those Yankees and Red Sox with their insane payrolls? The Indians are proving that baseball is about heart and effort just as much as it is about maintaining the most expensive players on a roster.
Cleveland sits at +1200 in the moneyline to win the division, whereas the Boston Red Sox, a team that had the worst overall start in 2011, sits at +250, and the New York Yankees sit at +190, the lowest odds in the division. True, New York and Boston has traditional programs that play well year in and year out (almost) and are more reliable for futures wagers. But betting on these teams doesn’t win big bucks!
After one full month of baseball, the Indians have shown their true batting and pitching capabilities, and barring any big injuries, have what it takes to play at the top until October.
The reigning American League champions, the Texas Rangers, sit at +700 in the futures. After a stellar start in 2011, the Rangers have dropped off a bit and are now neck and neck with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. The Angels are at +800 in the baseball futures.
All in all, winning big is about taking risks. And this season, the Cleveland Indians are a good and fun risk to wager.
The team has what it takes to make a strong run throughout the season and to cash in big-time in the MLB futures!
