American League East Showdown – MLB Parlay Pick
June 10, 2010
An all American League East Parlay is on tap for Thursday night as the Baltimore Orioles will play host to the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Tampa Bay Rays.
Both games will feature some bright young arms and obviously some guys that can swing the bat as the Blue Jays lead the MLB on homeruns while the Yankees hit the ball as good as anyone.
Stephen Strasburg may have had all the media attention this past week when he made his MLB debut, but there is another young prospect making his debut in the D.C. tonight. Jake Arrieta make his Major League debut for the Orioles tonight, and what a memorable one it will be as it comes against none other than the reigning World Champions, the New York Yankees.
MLB Betting Line – Game 1:
New York Yankees -1 ½ (-145) at Baltimore Orioles +1 ½ (+125)
Thursday, June 10 -7:05 PM ET
Over/Under – 9 ½
A fifth-round Draft pick in 2007, it has just been a matter of time for Arrieta who has been solid in his three year Minor League career, posting a 23-18 mark with a 2.89 ERA.
This year he has a 1.85 ERA with the Indians AAA affiliate, holding opponents to a .189 batting average in 12 games.
It’s going to be a real test for the kid as he’ll be going up against hitters like Robinson Cano, who if fresh off another multi-hit game, his third consecutive.
He’s been on fire all year, and since May 16, he is hitting an even .500 (29-for-58), so Arrieta is going to get a real taste of life in the big leagues right off the bat.
MLB Betting Line – Game 2:
Toronto Blue Jays +1 ½ (-165) at Tampa Bay Rays -1 ½ (+145)
Thursday, June 10 – 7:10 PM ET
Over/Under – 9
Some of the American League East’s best young arms will go head to head in the series finale of the Jays and Rays series as Toronto’s Brett Cecil (6-2 3.43 ERA) battles the Rays’ Wade Davis (5-5 5.03 ERA).
Cecil will be coming in with some confidence as he pitched a gem against the Yankees last time out. He held the reigning champs to a run on five hits in eight innings, the best outing by any pitcher against the Yanks up to that point in the season.
Davis wasn’t quit as spectacular last time out as he was lit up by the Rangers for eight runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. The discouraging thing for Davis is that was the second time in his last three starts that he didn’t make it out of the fourth inning.
With the Jays fresh off a tough loss, they’ll be looking for some payback. Combine that with the way Cecil has been throwing the ball, and the Jays are a lock to take this road game against the Rays.
MLB Parlay Pick is the Yankees (-1 ½ -145) and the Jays (+120)
