American League Central Matchup – Cleveland at Detroit
May 2, 2009
MLB betting sharps will have their eyes on a key American League Central matchup between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. Both teams seemingly have boat loads of talent, and routinely turn in very exciting games, however there is something missing from both squads. That would be a lack of help in the bullpen, but to sports bettors, that simply means more runs and a bet on the over on MLB lines!
However, Saturday’s contest may be a bit different as a pair of sinkerballers will be on the mound, and may be able to silence the big bats that inhabit the lineups in both dugouts. Aaron Laffey will be on the mound for the Cleveland Indians, who at press time is sporting a 1.36 WHIP and a 2-0 record. The left handed Cleveland hurler is in the spirit of the Jamie Moyers of the world, a soft tosser who is adept at hitting the corners and out thinking the hitters he faces. Laffey has managed to frustrate batters in his first two outings, but as baseball betting sharps know, won’t strike too many hitters out. This could result in a few base hits here and there, if one of analyzing the baseball betting lines and MLB spreads.
On the hill for Detroit will be Zach Miner, who has a similar skill set to Laffey, but throws with his right hand. Miner is a transitioned relief pitcher, who will tend to go only five or six innings, hoping to get his team deep enough that they can use their effective relievers. The St. Louis native doesn’t throw particularly hard either, but has a vast array of pitches in his arsenal that over a short outing can keep hitters on their toes enough to keep the Tigers in the game as well. He has shown a propensity to give up runs already this season however, with a 6.00 ERA at press time.
Given that the game will be held in Detroit, the Tigers should have the advantage. Once again, with Miner on the mound they will need to get to their bullpen early, and as such, will benefit from having the last at bat and a spacious ballpark to work with. Ryan Perry will once again be a key contributor for the Tigers, as he will be counted on in late innings to get the toughest part of the Indians order out. Thus far, he has passed that test with flying colors–but can he keep it up?
The pick: Detroit (-175)
