American League Baseball Betting – Detroit Tigers vs. LA Angels 4/22

Nobody in the L.A. area cares too much about baseball since the Lakers and Kings are doing so well in the playoffs. It’s a good thing to, because the Dodgers aren’t exactly putting their best foot forward to start the season. The Angels are hoping to keep pace with Seattle and Oakland as Texas continues to soul search. The Detroit Tigers will have to pile up wins early on if they hope to clinch an AL Wild Card spot. There’s no hope in hell of them catching the Twins.

Detroit has dropped two games in this series already, and have been outscored 9-11 in three games. A two-run homer by Miguel Cabrera in the ninth inning of last night’s game helped clinch a win for Detroit. Now they’re praying that Justin Verlander can put them in a position where late game heroics won’t be so necessary.

The problem is that Verlander has been taking a beating early on in the season. In his last outing against Seattle, he pitched through seven innings and allowed 7 hits and 3 earned runs. It’s been the story of his 2010 MLB betting season thus far. Verlander has a 6.88 ERA this season and has yet to register a win.

The Angels will counter with their home grown prospect, Joe Saunders, a lefty who is in his fifth year as a pro. He’s certainly earned his way in to the rotation. For his career he’s averaging a 4.22 ERA and has notched 22 wins in his past two seasons. He’s on pace to repeating those kinds of numbers again.

Last season Saunders pitched against the Tigers in late August, earning a win by allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs in five complete innings. He has some very sturdy bats backing him up, and if he can get the Angels off to a good start, this one is in the bag for him.

Where To Watch: FSD, FSW

It’s almost impossible not to like the Detroit Tiger’s order from the top, but this will be their seventh straight road game. Wear and tear, plus plenty of fatigue, will slow down their heavy hitters and give Saunders and the Angels enough breathing room to earn the victory at home.
