AFC Update – KC and Jets are the Best vs. NFL Betting Spread
November 1, 2010
The Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets are the two best teams in the AFC versus the NFL betting spread while the Denver Broncos are the worst.
The Chiefs are proving everybody wrong by continuing to provide football handicappers with profits while the Jets gave football handicappers a big goose egg this past Sunday. Still, NYJ deserves plenty of respect since it was their first NFL betting non-cover and straight up loss since Week 1.

Let’s get to the AFC Top 5 and the AFC Bottom 5!
AFC Top 5 NFL
- New York Jets 5-2 (5-2 ATS) – - The Jets couldn’t put up a single point versus the Green Bay Packers in a 0 to 9 loss as 6 ½ point favorites. Hey, it happens. Expect NYJ to make the necessary adjustments this week and to score 30 to 40 versus the Lions this Sunday.
- Kansas City Chiefs 5-2 (5-2 ATS) – - The Chiefs were all out to beat the Buffalo Bills in overtime this past Sunday. First, I predicted that the Chiefs wouldn’t cover the spread because, well, the Bills are a much, much better team than a lot of football handicappers believe. NFL betting wise, Buffalo has begun to step it up because QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has turned into a serious signal-caller. So, KC’s 13 to 10 victory, although a non-cover, is still a positive for them defensively because they held the Bills to only 10 points.
- Miami Dolphins 4-3 (5-2 ATS) – - Miami is 4 and 0 straight up on the season and 4 and 0 against the betting spread. The Fins are a tough football team but I’m not sure if they have enough to make the playoffs from the deep AFC East. It had to be nice putting a beat down on T.O. and Ochocinco in their 22 to 19 victory over the Bengals this past Sunday, though.
- New England Patriots 6-1 (4-2-1 ATS) – - The wheels are off in Minnesota. So, the Patriots covering a 5-point NFL betting spread at home versus the Vikings doesn’t impress me that much. The fact that they’ve lost only one game straight up this season does. I still have to question that defense versus the pass, however.
- Tennessee Titans 5-3 (5-3 ATS) – - The Titans blew it against San Diego this past Sunday. They had a 19 to 14 lead at halftime but then were outscored 19 to 6 in the second half. As 6-point dogs, they failed to cover by a measly 2 points in a 33 to 25 loss. They’ll bounce back because of coach Jeff Fisher and the solid running game.

- Denver Broncos 2-6 (2-6 ATS) – - According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, the Broncos won’t fire Josh McDaniels until probably after the 2011 season. Well, that just blows, doesn’t it, Denver fans? I mean, the 49’ers, at the Wembley Stadium game, outscored Denver 21 to 9 in the 4th quarter for a 24 to 16 victory.
- Cincinnati Bengals 2-5 (2-5 ATS) – - Maybe the Bungles and the Ponies can make an even Steven coaching trade: Marvin Lewis for Josh McDaniels. Both guys have talented teams and both guys are finding ways to blow it. I feel worse for Marvin than Josh. Lewis has All-Pros (or at least former All-Pros) on his team and they still can’t win for him. How do you get outscored 10 to 0 at home by the Miami Dolphins in the second half, Cincinnati? How?
- San Diego Chargers 3-5 (3-5 ATS) – - Just because you beat a good team like the Titans at home and covered the NFL betting spread, it doesn’t mean you’re off the list, Chargers. You still can’t find ways to win games and you face a tough rest of the way with Houston, Indianapolis, the resurgent Raiders and the tough 49’ers left on the schedule.
- Buffalo Bills 0-7 (3-4 ATS) – - Buffalo has won ATS in their last 2 games. Now, they face the Bears at home. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the Bills win this Sunday. Yes, they will win this Sunday because QB Ryan Fitzpatrick proved that he can manage a game fairly well even though he ended up with a 61.4 QB rating in the OT loss to KC. The man kept his team in it and that’s all that anybody can really ask of him.
- Cleveland Browns 2-5 (3-4 ATS) – - Cleveland figures to climb up this list in a hurry. They had a bye this past weekend but face Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Buffalo and Miami on the road and New England, the Jets, Baltimore and Pittsburgh at home in 8 out of their last 9 games.
