AFC Update – Colts, Jets, Steelers and…Jacksonville Highlight NFL Spread Betting
November 24, 2010
When it comes to NFL betting, it doesn’t get any better than the Colts, Jets and Steelers in the AFC.
Three of arguably the top teams in the AFC are also covering spreads with, if not regularity, then at least profitably. But the Jacksonville Jaguars, whom I predicted would only win 5 games this season, are sort of surprising everybody in the AFC.
The Jags are the St. Louis Rams and Detroit Lions of the AFC Conference, covering NFL betting spreads even though they aren’t considered a top team. One team not in the Top 5 that might surprise football handicappers are the New England Patriots who are 5-4-1 ATS even though they are 8 and 2 straight up.

Let’s get to the AFC Top 5 and the AFC Bottom 5!
AFC Top 5 NFL
- Indianapolis Colts 6-4 (6-3-1 ATS) – - It’s interesting how the Colts, who already have 4 losses with 6 games to go this season, are the best team versus the NFL betting spread in the AFC. I mean, they’ve gone 3 and 1 ATS in their last 4 games even though they’ve gone 2 and 2 straight up. Crazy. The loss to the Patriots this past Sunday is all on Peyton’s shoulders. A pick on the final drive? Come on, Peyton.
- New York Jets 8-2 (6-4 ATS) – - The Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes late game heroics are interesting but what’s up with the Jets’ D? The Jets are still in the Top 5 ATS but they’re only 1 and 3 versus the spread since coming off of their bye and the D has given up 20 or more points in 3 straight games.
- Pittsburgh Steelers 7-3 (6-4 ATS) – - That was one butt whipping the Steelers put on the Raiders this past Sunday. 35 to 3 as 9-point NFL spread favorites was not expected. I’m not going to jump on the wagon again just yet because I do believe they need to run the ball even more in order to win consistently.
- Jacksonville Jaguars 6-4 (6-4 ATS) – - The Jags have won 3 straight games straight up and ATS even though their D is ranked 28th versus the pass and gives up 27 points per game. QB David Garrard’s rating is now up 98.7 for the season. That has to have something to do with it.
- Kansas City Chiefs 6-4 (6-4 ATS) – - After losing 3 straight games ATS and going 1 and 2 straight up, the Chiefs got back onto the winning track because of one reason. The Arizona Cardinals visited them this past Sunday. KC spanked one of the worst teams in professional football 31 to 13 to easily cover the -9 point NFL betting spread in the sportsbook.
AFC Bottom 5 NFL sports book
- Cincinnati Bengals 2-8 (3-7 ATS) – - The Bungles let the Bills score 49 points against them in their 31 to 49 loss straight up to the Buffalo Bills as 4-point favorites. How ridiculously awful is that? Talk about no heart.
- Denver Broncos 3-7 (3-7 ATS) – - I told anybody that would listen that the Ponies would go back to their losing ways versus the Chargers this past Monday night. SD tore apart their horrid defense by racking up 35 points. The Broncos are a joke.
- Cleveland Browns 3-7 (4-6 ATS) – - Vegas hasn’t set a line yet, but the Browns have to be one of the best teams to cover in football betting this Sunday because they play the Carolina Panthers. I still believe that Peyton Hillis is one of the best running backs in the NFL and the game versus Jacksonville this past Sunday could have gone either way.
- Houston Texans 4-6 (5-6 ATS) – - Eventually, when you have the 31st ranked defense in the NFL, things aren’t going to go your way. That’s just how it is. The Texans have gone 2 and 6 in their last 8 games. Nobody is respecting either WR Andre Johnson or RB Arian Foster and games coming up versus Tennessee (twice), hot Philadelphia and Baltimore will end the Texans’ playoff chances.
- Tennessee Titans 5-5 (5-5 ATS) – - The Titans have lost 3 games in a row and, once again, are in the midst of a Vince Young meltdown. Forget it, coach Fisher, the man doesn’t want to be the best. Start Kerry, have him throw bombs to Randy Moss and an injury free (hopefully!) Kenny Britt and call it a day.
