ACC College Football Lines – Duke vs. Wake Forest
September 11, 2010
Both Duke and Wake Forest got their seasons off to good starts, but I hardly believe anyone was betting on those games. With Wake Forest toting a -5.0 college football line this weekend against visiting Duke, those of you that feast on ACC football will finally get a chance to spread the wealth.
And Wake Forest’s rushing game will likely get the chance to feast on Duke. The Demon Deacons have gone 10-0 SU in their last 10 meetings, which is an annual matchup in the ACC. However, the Duke Blue Devils have gone 6-4 ATS in those ten meetings 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games against Wake Forest.

Duke is led by sophomore quarterback Sean Renfree who is a 6-foot-5, 220 pound prospect who may get some looks from NFL scouts if he continues to have days like he did last Saturday. Renfree totaled 350 yards and 2 touchdowns, while throwing 31-for-39 in completions.
Even though the game was against the Elon Phoenix, it can’t be undersold what Duke’s offense did to the scoreboard. Not only did Renfree lead a passing attack that produced, he was also backed by a strong rushing attack that managed 192 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Wake Forest’s 53-13 mauling of Presbyterian would’ve shattered the college football line (had there been one), but it showcased an amazing rushing attack that tallied 415 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground. It’s a good thing they ran that much because the passing game didn’t break the 100-yard ceiling.

College Football Betting Odds: Wake Forest -5 (49.5)
Ted Stachitas is the focal point of Wake Forest’s offense. He totaled 84 passing yards on just 7 completions and ran for another 76 yards while scoring a rushing touchdown. The run-first Deacons certainly didn’t shy away from running the heck out of the football, which could mean trouble for Duke which allowed 6.0 yards per carry against Elon.
As such, the way you bet this college football line is pretty much based on how you feel about Duke’s ability to stifle the run, or Wake Forest’s pass defense. Wake Forest allowed Presbyterian quarterback Brandon Miley, a 6-foot-2 junior, to throw for 165 yards and a touchdown. Duke’s rushing defense gave up 125 total rushing yards to Elon, though they seemed vulnerable through the air.
Duke’s ability to play better rush defense than Wake can on pass defense will be the deciding factor in this game. The rushing attack of Wake will aggressively test the Duke Blue Devils, and Renfree has to do an ample job of using a balanced attack to give his defense time to rest.
If and when he does that, he’ll not only get nods for managing the heck out of a game, he’ll add some faith to those willing to wager on Duke’s chances as road dogs on the college football betting line.
