That she is after winning the title in Dubai adds shine to her stock value in the market, making her the odds-on-favourite by a country mile to win a second consecutive Abierto Mexicana crown.

She has the ranking edge over Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva as well as the form edge. Kerber is 9-2 on the season, which includes a third round appearance at the Aussie Open and a runner-up finish in Bogota last week. Kerber comes into this tournament with obvious momentum, making her the good play.

Koryttseva has one thing going for her, a 1-0 edge over Kerber having beaten her German opposite in 2007 at the Futures. Because Koryttseva has been slow to get her season off the ground and her form is questionable she is considered the underdog. But at mere +145 she is definitely capable of upsetting Kerber. Might be worth the small bet. Cooler heads will turn to Koryttseva on the handicap at +3 -110 and the Over 21 ½ -110.
