Last week served up a full, two-course menu with ATP and WTA action at BetUS Sportsbook. Importantly, the online tennis betting community was not disappointed, as the action was exciting, delivering some surprise results. Here is a breakdown of what happened.

ABN AMRO WORLD TENNIS TOURNAMET

Newly minted World No.2 Novak Djokovic entered this event as the top seed. His opposite was No.2 Nikolay Davydenko. Djokovic was the short-odds-on favourite to win outright given his recent ranking ascent and surely, he wanted to come through for the market – if not just to underscore that ranking rise but get into the Champions’ circle for the season. But didn’t he fall at the semi-final hurdle to a revived Mikhail Youzhny 7-6(5), 7-6(6). Meanwhile Davydenko was edged out by Robin Soderling in the semis 7-6(3), 6-4.

The final match set up, between third seed Soderling and sixth seed Youzhny, the big-serving Swede would take the prize 7-6(5), 7-6(6). Robin Soderling wins his first title of the season.

BRASIL OPEN

Top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero navigated a successful course through the Brasil Open to win his first title on the season. The 30-year-old Ferrero, a former world No.1 and French Open champion, was clinical in the final, beating Lukas Kubot 6-1, 6-0. It was the 13th title victory in Ferrero’s storied career.

SAP OPEN

The SAP Open featured the top two seeds, Andy Roddick and Fernando Verdasco in Sunday’s title match. It was the first time since 2002 that the top two seeds would navigate a successful course in to the final.

In the final movement, Andy Roddick got off to a quick start, taking a break of serve and another to wrap up the first set. Roddick continued well early in the second and looked all but ready to close out the match when Verdasco snapped his momentum. He converted on double break point to grab the 2-1 lead and saved four break points on his serve to deny Roddick breaking back.

Verdasco would take the second set 6-4. The final set was a nail biter and both were in top form. Both dropped just seven points on serve in the final sets but Verdasco stepped up at 4-4 with a backhand winner to break serve. He served out the match with a 130mph ace. Fernando Verdasco joins the Winners Circle this week impressively. The SAP Open title is his first on the season.

Meanwhile, the Russian’s dominated with Elena Dementieva winning the 18th Open GDF Suez title and Vera Zvonareva winning the Pattaya Open. Dementieva beat Lucie Safarova in an emotional three-set marathon, 67(5) 61 64 to pick up her second title on the season after Sydney. Zvonareva edged Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-4 to win her first title on the season.
This week in tennis betting there is a whole slew of action with the Tier I Barclay’s Dubai Tennis Championships, taking most of the spotlight, and the ATP and WTA RMK Championships, the Open 13 and Copa Telemex.
