NFL Week Four Preview: Favre’s Vikings and Rogers’ Packers are the Game of the Week

Without a doubt the game to watch and wager on in the BetUS online sportsbook is the Monday nighter in Week 4 of the 2009 NFL Season.

Green Bay vs. Minnesota

Brett Favre and the undefeated Minnesota Vikings host the Green Bay Packers in the Metrodome. At this point, the Norsemen are favored by 3 ½ to take down the Pack. Can they cover the spread? If their game against the San Francisco 49’ers was any indication, Minnesota could have a tough time this coming Monday night.

Green Bay’s passing game is suddenly on track and Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offensive line would like nothing better than to outplay Favre and that Minnesota offensive line. No matter what happens, expect a high scoring affair as the Vikings have scored 34, 27 and 27 in their first three games and the Packers have scored 21, 24 and 36 in their first three games.

Minnesota’s pass defense is terrible. Green Bay’s rush defense isn’t that great. Adrian Peterson eats up the Packers’ D and Aaron Rodgers and Donald Driver eat up the Vikings’ D. Over 46 in the sportsbook looks pretty good, I think.

Sanchez vs. Brees Could Be a Good One

Another dome is the site of arguably the second best football wagering game in the NFL this weekend as the New Orleans Saints take on the visiting New York Jets.

Mark Sanchez has done everything that has been asked of him and more as the rookie QB of the New York Jets. The Jets have beaten three solid football teams in 2009, the Houston Texans, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans, and now must face arguably the best team in the NFC Conference at this point in the season, the New Orleans Saints.

This will be Sanchez’s toughest test as the Saints have the 10 th ranked defense in the NFL, the top ranked offense in the NFL, and one of the most raucous fan bases in the NFL. If Sanchez can lead the Jets to victory over New Orleans in the Superdome, then watch out. The BetUS odds makers are thinking that Sanchez can’t as the Jets are 6 ½ point underdogs versus the Saints this Sunday.

Odds Makers Say Steelers Bounce Back

The Pittsburgh Steelers are solid 6 ½ point favorites over the San Diego Chargers this week and I’m not sure if there is a football betting fan out there ready to argue against it.

Pittsburgh is 1 and 2 straight-up and 0 and 3 ATS so far this NFL Season. They’ve lost two close games against Chicago and Cincinnati and now get a chance to take on San Diego at home.

The Chargers haven’t been that impressive this year. They blew a lead against Baltimore at home two weeks ago and almost lost to the Oakland Raiders on the road straight up three weeks ago. Last Sunday, they got lucky when Miami QB Chad Pennington went down with an injury.

The Steelers are a good bet to step it up and to get their second victory straight-up and first victory against the spread this Sunday against San Diego.

Ravens Can Continue Upward Climb Against Patriots

The Baltimore Ravens have been about as impressive as any team in the NFL in 2009. They can continue their upward climb in the AFC Conference by beating the team that usually has the top spot, the New England Patriots.

The Patriots bounced back from their loss to the Jets in Week 2 to beat Atlanta both straight up and ATS, 26 to 10, in Week 3. Baltimore is a much better team than the Pats and New England will need to be close to perfect in order to shut down the Ravens’ offense which has been fantastic behind the arm of Joe Flacco and the running of Willis McGahee and Ray Rice.

When it comes to New England’s offense, they will need to get Randy Moss more involved early and Fred Taylor out on the edge so that he can use his excellent speed. They will need to protect Tom Brady from that terrific Ravens’ linebacking corps led by Ray Lewis.

The BetUS odds makers know how tough this game will be. The football wagering line currently stands at New England -2 in the sportsbook.
