49ers at Packers – NFL Betting Odds

December 3, 2010

A 90’s classic features the San Francisco 49ers visiting Lambeau Field to take on the Green Packers this Sunday at 1 PM ET in a game of two teams that are fighting for the top of their respective divisions.

NFL Betting Odds:

San Francisco 49ers +9
Green Bay Packers -9
O/U 41

Both San Francisco and Green Bay trail the leaders in their divisions, the St. Louis Rams and the Chicago Bears, respectively. However, the Packers have a winning record and the 49ers do not, although San Fran has a better ATS record with a 6-5 ATS mark.

The Packers have only been a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points one time this season, which they covered. Meanwhile, the 49ers were an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 points two times this year, covering both but also they have covered the spread in 10 of their last 15 games with an NFL spread like this.

Last season the San Francisco 49ers lost 24-30 against the Packers at Lambeau Field as QB Aaron Rodgers threw for 344 yards and two TDs, while Greg Jennings had a season-high 126 receiving yards in that game.  However, keep in mind that this game will have 29°F temperature and will likely be snowing during game. Obviously, the 49ers are not used to this, as the Packers play better with ugly conditions.

The over and under is set at 41 points and consider that Green Bay is 0-3 ATS in a home game where the total is between 38.5 and 42 points. Also, as you NFL betting fans know, the NFC West is a horrible division and the Packers have a 4-1 ATS against NFC West division opponents over the past three years and 3-1 ATS when playing against a team with a losing record this season.

On the other hand, the 49ers are 3-0 ATS against NFC North division opponents and 8-4 ATS off a division game; however Green Bay is 9-2 against the spread versus San Francisco since 1992.

Simmons’ pick: take the Packers.
