4 Race Horse Play – Keeneland and Aqueduct

April 15, 2009

We start another week of attempting to pad our bankroll, and with taxes due today, this would be a good day to hit a couple of nice winners.

Our Pick 3 play starts early today, kicking off with the fourth race at Keeneland. The three-race sequence includes a couple of longshots in the first leg, which could set us up for a nice score.

Our play of the day comes from the Big A, a $50,000 maiden claiming race. Four Star General looks like a four star pick, and we have a couple of prices that could land in the bottom half of the exacta.

Today’s Play of the Day from Aqueduct:

AQU Race 4 Md $50,000 (2:27 et)
#8 Four Star General   3/1
#10 Coach Fruscio   2/1
#9 Timely Mission   8/1
#4 Puregoodniss   8/1

Analysis: #8 Four Star General made a mild late run to finish third last out after getting bumped off stride while four wide on the far turn. The colt was beaten just 2 1/2 lengths for the top spot and does not need to move forward much off his last start to be in the mix here. The colt is out of the stakes winner Top Ruhl ($145K), who has dropped five other foals to race, four winners, top earner Salt Water Reign ($178K).

#10 Coach Fruscio is back in with maidens after a distant sixth in stakes company last out. The gelding had to steady when pinched back coming out of the gate last out. The gelding was third two back in his debut, earning a number good enough to win here.

Wagering
WIN: #8 to win at 5/2 or better.
EX: 8,10 / 4,8,9,10
TRI: 8,10 / 4,8,9,10 / 1,2,4,8,9,10

Today’s Pick 3 Play from Keeneland:

Starting in Race 4: $1: 2,4,8,10 / 4,9,11 / 3,4 = $24

KEE Race 4 Clm $10,000 (2:35 et)
#2 Legal Motion, #8 Scotland Place, #10 Chosen Verse, #4 This Way Home

#2 Legal Motion came wide with a good late rally to finish a close up third last out versus $5K starter allowance foes at 32/1. The mare beat $5K claimers two and three back and comes in here in sharp for a low profile outfit. There looks to be enough early zip in here that should set things up nicely for her here and we should catch a decent price.

#8 Scotland Place also figures to be a decent price in here. The mare exits a highly graded turf race for a $25K tag at Gulfstream Park. The top four runners in the race all came back to win next out. She won when last out for a $10K tag  and returns off a two-month freshening for another low profile barn.

KEE Race 5 Md Sp Wt (3:05 et)
#4 Eagle Poise, #11 Good Mon, #9 Great Crusade

#4 Eagle Poise was off poorly in his debut, tracked the early pace from the inside and weakened in the stretch to finish sixth in his debut. Three have come out of the race to win next out including the winner Santana Six, who beat Alw-1 company in his next outing on 3/28. The colt has worked smartly since his debut for the Frankel barn. The colt has a nice pedigree, by Empire Maker out of the stakes winner Reams of Verse ($539K), who has dropped four other foals to race, all winners, top earner Many Volumes ($160K).

#11 Good Mon makes his debut for the McPeek barn that is 17% winners (with a +ROI) with first time starters. The colt is by Maria’s Mon (12% winners with debut runners) out of a Unbridled’s Song mare that has dropped one other foal to race, Ascot Hall ($50K). Debuts with lasix and among his morning drills are a bullet work on 4/3 out of the gate.

KEE Race 6 Alw $58,000N1X (3:35 et)
#3 Rudy Flyer, #4 No Inflation

#3 Rudy Flyer tries turf and two turns for the first time here for the Connelly barn. The gelding was a sharp winner over poly two back, which earned him a start in stakes company where the colt was a non threatening sixth. He has the pedigree to handle the surface switch. By Mutakddim (11% first turf) out of a stakes placed Fred Astaire mare that has dropped a couple of turf winners including turf stakes winner Anna Em ($193K).

#4 No inflation was the beaten fav last out in the Rushaway. His two turf starts were solid, a runner up finish in his debut over soft ground and a sharp win two back on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs versus Alw-1 foes. The gelding makes his third start of his current form cycle and figures to bounce back with a better effort with the return to the allowance ranks.

Price Plays From Aqueduct:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.

R1: #6 Hazaam’s Back   12/1
R1: #3 Desert Dawn   15/1
R4: #9 Timely Mission   8/1
R4: #4 Puregoodniss   8/1
R5: #8 Ed’s Princess   12/1
R6: #2 Shannon H   8/1
R9: #5 Sweet Groom   12/1
R9: #4 Metinicus   15/1

Good luck padding your bankroll today!
