2010 Masters Prop Bets – Who will Make the Cut Part III

April 17, 2010

As hard as it is to believe, there are other storylines at the 2010 Masters besides Tiger Woods and his slew of mistresses.

Let’s look at some of them, as we offer some of the best Masters prop bets anywhere. Today we’ll investigate who’ll make the cut and who won’t this weekend.

Angel Cabrera WILL make the cut (-300): If you’re going to get odds like this, you better darn well be comfortable that whoever your betting on will make the cut. When it comes to the Masters though, Cabrera is about as safe as it gets.

For anyone who hasn’t lived under a rock since last April, Cabrera is the defending champion at Augusta National, as he shot 12 under par last year, and held of Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry for the title. Even more impressively, when it comes to this specific bet, he shot a staggering eight under par through two rounds. If he’s even half as good in 2010, he’ll cruise into a weekend pairing.

Finally, history is on Cabrera’s side, as he’s made each of the last four cuts in Augusta, and has three previous top 10 finishes before last year’s victory.

Cabrera’s odds aren’t great, but he may be the safest play on the board.

Matt Kuchar Will NOT make the cut (+190): Who would ever believe that it was 12 years ago that Kuchar burst onto the scene at Augusta as a baby faced college kid, finishing tied for 21st as an amateur in 1998. After a 50th place finish the following year, and a missed cut in 2002, it has taken eight long years for Kuchar to get back into the Masters.

But while Kuchar has bounced back nicely after a stint on the Nationwide Tour, don’t expect this to be a great weekend for him. Not only do people still remember him from his run in 1998, but now he’s got the added pressure of playing with Tiger Woods in 1:42 p.m. tee time Thursday. Good luck kid!

Again, Kuchar just being here is simply an incredible story, and he certainly has a lot of great golf ahead of him. Just don’t expect of it to be played this weekend at Augusta National.

Fred Couples Will NOT make the cut (+200): It’s been a long time since Couples was the up-and-coming star who secured a 1992 win at Augusta National, after finishing in the top 10 in four previous tournaments.

However that same guy, the guy who’s won 15 PGA Tour events, is now a 51 year man playing on the Champions Tour. And as hard as it is to believe, it’s been seven long years since Couples last victory on the tour, the 2003 Houston Open. Couples has missed the last two cuts at Augusta as well.

And while stranger things have happened in recent golf history, my money will be squarely on Couples finishing of struggling early, and not making it to the weekend. Those 2-1 odds on this Masters prop bet looks too good to pass up.
