2010 Masters Prop Bets – Over Under First Round Scores Part II

April 18, 2010

It’s hard to believe but the first major of the golf season is just about set to get underway, when the Masters tee’s off from Augusta National Golf Course on Thursday morning.

Today, let’s look at the over/under first round score projections of some of the games best players, in 2010 Masters Prop Bets:

Tiger Woods UNDER 72 (-120): For those of you who might not know, par is 72 at Augusta. So will the world’s greatest golfer, playing under the most amount of scrutiny he’s ever had, be able to break par in his first round back? While conventional wisdom would say no, I’m thinking he does.

The fact is, few have dominated Augusta National quite like Woods has over the course of the last decade and a half. Woods has played every Masters since 1995 and missed the cut just once in 2006. Of course he followed that up by winning the tournament the following year, and has won three more Green Jackets since then.

Over the past five years, Woods has been at his absolute best, as he hasn’t finished worse than sixth since 2004. And remember, last year, in his sixth place finish, he was coming off major knee surgery.

So while some are doubting Woods, I am not one of them. He didn’t shoot above 72 in any round last year, and I expect him to shoot below par in Round 1 this year as well. Take the UNDER in this 2010 Masters Betting Prop.

Ernie Els OVER 72 ½ strokes (+105): With Woods having missed most of the last six months to deal with his personal issues, it is Els that has gained the most, as he’s vaulted up the player rankings in both Europe and America. And he has had a red-hot start to 2010, already winning two PGA Tournaments, which is two more than he won in all of 2009.

However, Augusta has been Els personal house of horrors, especially of late. After finishing second in 2004, here are his consecutive finishes since: 47th (2005), tied for 27th (2006), missed the cut (2007), missed the cut (2008), missed the cut (2009). Anyone sensing a trend here?

In the opening round last year Els shot a 75, and until he can prove that he has brought his “A” game to Augusta, count me as one of his detractors.

It has been, and will continue to be an excellent year for Els in 2010. That just won’t carry over in this year’s Masters.

Lee Westwood UNDER 72 ½ strokes (-105): Oh boy, things were going so smoothly for Westwood at the 2009 Masters, as he cruised into the last round in contention at four under par. And then…DOINK, he shot a 79 in the final round and returned to the clubhouse with his tail between his legs.

Personally, I’m expecting a bit of a bounce back for Westwood, as he has made the last three cuts at Augusta.

While I’m saying he’ll win the tournament, he will shoot under 72, making him maybe the best Masters prop bet of all!
