2010 Kentucky Derby Predictions
May 1, 2010
After analyzing several horse matchups and a number of props, we’re finally down to making our final predictions for the 2010 Run for the Roses! Here’s how we project the final board to look like when the Fastest Two Minutes in Sports is said and done!
#10 Paddy O’Prado – Many hate the fact that this horse is such an unknown commodity. What we do know about Paddy O’Prado is that he is a fantastic turf horse that really shouldn’t have any issues with the distance of this race.
We also love the fact that the weather forecast for Kentucky Derby betting action is calling for rain, and a muddy track, which dirt horses don’t normally run in, feel a lot like the turf. That being said, Paddy O’Prado has a huge leg up on the field if indeed the track is muddy and sloppy.
The grey colt has a great jockey aboard him in Kent Desormeaux, and he has a great chance to be in the money at the end of this race if the speed horses fail to last the distance.
#12 Conveyance - It’s hard to not love a horse that has been truly dominant in his career. Had Conveyance not been nipped at the wire by Endorsement in the Sun Land Derby, he would still be an undefeated horse and would most likely be the favorite out of the field of 20.
There is some concern that Conveyance hasn’t run up against the best three year olds in the field yet, as he has never run at any level above a Grade III race. However, trainer Bob Baffert wouldn’t bring this horse to the show if he didn’t believe that he could win the race, and we’re going to buy into Conveyance as well.
He has an ideal post position at #12 and should be right up front on the rail by the time the field hits the first turn. From there, it’s going to be a matter of holding on tight and not getting nipped again. However, we feel as though he could get bitten right at the wire again just as he did at the Sun Land.
#17 Dublin – Jockey D. Wayne Lukas knows just how strong Dublin is in this race, but not many have seemed to catch on.
As a two year old, Dublin had a miserable outing at the Iroquois, but since that point, he really has gotten his head on straight and raced well both at the Rebel Stakes and the Southwest. Dublin hasn’t been to the winner’s circle in a race since the G1 Hopeful back in September 2009, but he promises to be a force that could come up right at the wire and take care of every horse in the field.
Don’t be shocked if the horse that is getting the bed of roses on his back at the end of the night on Saturday is Dublin.
