2010 Heisman Trophy Long Shots
August 1, 2010
While making college football picks is always fun, there’s something twice as exhilarating about wagering on a long shot, then seeing them come through for you.
So with that, let’s look at the Heisman Trophy odds, and some player that can help you cash in big, if you bet on them now.
Case Keenum (+1400): The only place most quarterbacks will ever put up the stats Keenum did in 2009 is when they’re playing Xbox. Now entering 2010, is possible that the Houston signal caller will be even better this year?

Last season, Keenum threw for 5671 yards, a staggering number that was over 1400 yards better than his closest competitor. He also tossed 44 touchdowns and completed 70 percent of his passes. And he’s back to do it all again.
Strictly from a numbers standpoint, Keenum should be amongst the favorites to take home the 2010 Heisman Trophy, but one has to wonder if voters will select a quarterback who plays in a pass happy system like Houston’s.
Still, for the odds you’re getting on him, there aren’t many better Heisman Trophy wagers to make.
Kellen Moore (+1500): Speaking of video game numbers, Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore put up some of his own in 2009, as he threw for a staggering 39 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Unreal!!!
Now, he’s back to do it all over again, and he’s joined by 20 other returning starters, making Boise State one of the most experienced teams in college football.
The Broncos schedule isn’t easy, as they open by traveling cross country to take on Virginia Tech and follow it up two weeks later with a visit from Oregon State. But if they can run the table and finish undefeated, Boise may be the first team ever from a non-BCS conference to play for a title.
And if they do play for that title, there will be public sentiment to name Moore the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner. Which is why you shouldn’t wait any longer to make Moore, one of your college football picks.
LaMichael James (+3000): If you want to go way off the board with your Heisman Trophy wager, head up to the Pacific Northwest, where LaMichael James might shock the world by taking home college football’s top individual honor.
Don’t laugh, James comes into this season as one of the game’s top returning rushers, as he finished with 1546 yards as a true freshman last year. And with All-Pac 10 quarterback Jeremiah Masoli kicked off the team this offseason, James’ role in this offense will increase exponentially.
We’re not saying that James is a favorite to win the Heisman, but if you’re looking for a true long shot, he should be one of your college football picks.
