2010 Heisman Betting Watch – Denard Robinson Soars Again
September 21, 2010
The return of Mark Ingram to the NCAAF betting fold had a huge impact for the defending BCS Champion Crimson Tide, but it didn’t send that many ripples through the front runners in 2010 Heisman betting. That part shouldn’t surprise anyone. What’s grabbing everyone’s attention, however, is the staggering play of Denard Robinson of Michigan who is piling up big wins – and big numbers – early in the Heisman race.

1. Denard Robinson (QB) – Michigan Wolverines
UMass was never going to give the Michigan Wolverines much of a challenge, and Robinsons had 345 total yards and 3 touchdowns to pad his own stats. The previously laughable Wolverines are now 3-0 SU and 2-0 ATS with a 21st ranking in the AP Top-25. Robinson is finally making the boys of the Big House, a big deal. Want to know why Robinson ranks so high in the Heisman polls across the board? Here’s a hint: he leads the country in rushing.
Next Game: Bowling Green vs. Michigan -24.5
2. Terrell Pryor (QB) – Ohio State Buckeyes
A lot of handicappers would rate Pryor lower in the 2010 Heisman betting race, but not me. I’m convinced that this guy’s natural ability is starting to materialize in to something great. Pryor put up 235-yards passing against Ohio and threw 2 touchdowns, but also gave up 2 interceptions. Right now that’s not a huge concern but as the leading man in the Heisman betting odds he has high expectations to live up to…and a monster spread waiting him next weekend.
Next Game: Eastern Michigan vs. Ohio State -42.5
3. Kellen Moore (QB) – Boise State Broncos
Boise State has stayed steady in the rankings as the third best team in the country, and that’s exactly how I feel about Moore. My beef with Moore has more to do with the schedule of the Broncos. He has one final hurdle to pass when the Broncos host Oregon State and then he gets to demolish the conference as per usual. His 585 yards passing and 5 touchdowns will keep him in the race, but he needs gargantuan numbers to stay relevant.
Next Game: Oregon State vs. Boise State -16.5
4. Ryan Mallet (QB) – Arkansas Razorbacks
Mallet sure breached the 1,000 passing yard barrier in a hurry! With 380-yards and 3 touchdowns against Georgia as a road dog – which included a game winner – Mallet’s numbers alone will keep him in the race. He needs to be competitive against Alabama at home this weekend. His Heisman betting hopes can absorb a loss, but he has to produce against one of the best defenses in the country.
Next Game: Alabama -7.5 vs. Arkansas
5. LaMichael James (RB) – Oregon Ducks
Look who’s back. LaMichael James or the Ducks rushed for 227-yards and scored 2 touchdowns to announce his candidacy this year for the Heisman Trophy. Running backs need to score a hideous amount of touchdowns to stay in this race, but if Oregon is challenging for the Pac-10 title then James has a shot.
Next Game: Oregon -11 vs. Arizona State
BIGGEST RISER – Ed Wesley (RB – TCU Horned Frogs)
Remember Wesley’s name because he’s just a sophomore. He’s averaged 8.2 yards a carry this year and has 384 total rushing yards with 4 touchdowns. There are plenty of young tailbacks making noise, but if TCU can rise to the occasion like they did last year then Wesley will be getting a ton of credit.
Next Game: TCU -17.5 vs. SMU
BIGGEST LOSER – Trent Richardson (RB – Alabama Crimson Tide)
It’s really subtraction by addition. The return of Ingram hurt Richardson’s marvelous run through the first two weeks of the season. Ingram ran for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 9 carries, while Richardson totaled 61 yards on 7 carries of his own. He wont’ get the big time touches to stay in the Heisman betting race for the rest of the year.
Next Game: Alabama -7.5 vs. Arkansas
