(19) Kansas at (2) Oklahoma – Take the Jayhawks as Griffin is out
February 23, 2009
The Kansas Jayhawks, ranked high in the Power Rankings travel to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners in a game that suddenly has huge implications in regards to seeding in the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners looked to be on their way to a top seed in the Midwest, but a lost to Texas Tech and the fact that their star, Blake Griffin, might be out with a concussion in Monday night’s game means that Oklahoma is in danger of losing that top seed. The Sooners are 25 and 2 straight-up. Their record against the spread is 12-9-1. Their record ATS at home is 5 and 5.
Last year’s champs, the Kansas Jayhawks, have been starting to play as well towards the end of this season as they were towards the end of last season. They’ve won 9 out of 10 games straight-up to bring their record to 22 and 5. Against the spread, the Jayhawks have gone 15-5-1. Their ATS record on the road is 6 and 2.
Kansas Jayhawks +4 ½ -110
Oklahoma Sooners -4 ½ -110
Here are a few online NCAAB betting trends for this game:
The Kansas Jayhawks are 6 and 0 against the spread in their last 6 games on the road.
The Kansas Jayhawks are 21-6-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
The Oklahoma Sooners are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 home games versus a team with a winning record.
The Home team is 6 and 1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
This game comes down to the status of Blake Griffin. Griffin hasn’t been ruled out of the game. It’s very simple. If Griffin plays, and he’s 100%, then the Oklahoma Sooners should win this game.
If Griffin can’t play, then the Kansas Jayhawks should win this game.
The Sooners are a slight favorite in the BetOnline Sportsbook because they are playing at home. But I don’t believe it will matter. Without Griffin, the Sooners aren’t close to being a top level team. They just don’t have the ability to put up points or grab rebounds.
That’s the problem in college hoops when your hopes rest on a single player.
I’m going to wait until we get closer to game time. Then, I will decide if putting money on the Oklahoma Sooners is the way to go. It will all depend on Griffin.
My initial thoughts are that Griffin won’t play. That would make Kansas a terrific online bet at a four point underdog.
