#1 Duke Tries to Bounce Back as Big College Basketball Odds Fave on Saturday
January 15, 2011
#1 Duke will try to bounce back as what figures to be a huge college basketball betting odds favorite in the sportsbook on Saturday, January 15th. The Dookies suffered their first defeat of the season, a 61 to 66 loss to Florida State as -7 point road favorites, just this week.
Now, Duke will try to rebound off of the loss versus ACC rival Virginia. The Blue Devils vs. the Cavaliers isn’t the only game on Saturday that basketball handicappers should be paying attention to. #3 Kansas vs. Nebraska and Maryland vs. #7 Villanova will be taking place at around the same time Duke takes on Virginia.

Jan. 15th – NCAA BB Games
Maryland Terrapins (11-5) at #7 Villanova Wildcats (15-1)
Where: The Pavilion, Villanova, Pennsylvania
When: 1:00 pm EST
Fair Basketball Odds: Maryland +5 ½
Analysis: The Villanova Wildcats have gone 4 and 0 both straight up and versus the sports betting spread in their last 4 games. I still feel that they could find things tough versus Maryland on Saturday. If the sportsbook offers the Terrapins at +5 ½ or higher, I’m all over them to cover the spread. ‘Nova’s recent success has come against South Florida, Rutgers, Cincinnati and Louisville. I believe that Maryland might be as good, or better, than any one of those 4 teams. The Terrapins lost by only 8 points to Duke, 64 to 71, at Cameron Indoor Stadium two games back and is 3 and 0 against the spread on the road this season. Maryland could challenge ‘Nova’s recent dominance.
Virginia Cavaliers (10-6) at #1 Duke Blue Devils (15-1)
Where: Cameron Indoor Stadium, Durham, North Carolina
When: 2:00 pm EST
Fair Basketball Odds: Duke -17 ½
Analysis: Online sportsbook betting fans should expect the Duke Blue Devils to take no prisoners on Saturday. Duke is a veteran team with arguably the greatest coach in college hoops history steering their ship. The Blue Devils should absolutely rout the Virginia Cavaliers on January 15th. Virginia has played better lately. They barely lost to North Carolina 56 to 62 as +6 ½ point faves, but they’re still the same team that lost to the Seattle Redhawks 53 to 59 and to Iowa State 47 to 60. More importantly, the Blue Devils will try to calm everybody’s nerves after the loss to the Seminoles by building up a 25 to 30 points lead before the 10 minute mark of the second half versus the Cavaliers on Saturday. Duke should roll.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-3) at #3 Kansas Jayhawks (16-0)
Where: Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence, Kansas
When: 2:00 pm EST
Basketball Odds: Nebraska +12 ½
Analysis: Even though the Jayhawks are undefeated, they haven’t been that great versus the NCAA betting lines in the sportsbook. Rock Chalk is only 4 and 4 ATS at home this season. They’ve gone 0 and 2 against the spread in their last 2 games. Nebraska lost by 8 points in their last to Missouri, 69 to 77, but before that had run off 11 straight victories mostly against sub-division basketball squads. I still can’t get myself to back the Jayhawks versus the spread in this game. They built a 15 point lead over Michigan two games backs before barely hanging on to win in overtime. They couldn’t cover a 9 ½ point spread versus Iowa State in a 5 point victory, 84 to 79. Nebraska could make it interesting on Saturday, like all of Kansas’s opponents seem to do.
